Hello, fellow Steemit users. History and culture are two very important aspects when it comes to describing a certain place's background. Every place has its own unique historical and cultural reference. To talk about that is a matter of great pride. This contest gives me this great opportunity to discuss the history and culture of my place. So, now I will begin with my post.
I am from the city of Lucknow in India.
HISTORY
Lucknow is also known as 'The City of Nawabs'. This name was coined after the much longer period of ruling by the aristocratic family of Nawabs over the city of Lucknow. These Nawabs were famous for their extravagant and luxurious lifestyles and were patrons of art, music, and architecture. Lucknow was the capital of the kingdom of Awadh. Lucknow has several important historical references. It was a major centre of uprising in the Indian Rebellion of 1857 which was initiated in an attempt to free India from the British government.
The Khilafat Movement also had a major support centre in Lucknow. An important session of the Indian National Congress that had great relevance was hosted here in 1916. The Kakori incident which was a very famous historical incident also took place in Lucknow.
CULTURE
Language - The primary language of Lucknow is Hindi. But it is a lso native to the language of Urdu. The Nawabs in particular were patrons of Urdu. A lot of work has been done in the field of literature and poetry. Many famous poets have flourished in this city with their works. English is also pretty common here. It is very well understood by others.
Food - The most famous and best part of Lucknow is its food. The non-vegetarian dishes and cuisine offered over here outmatches any other in the world. There are several dishes which are typical only to this city. Tunday Kebabi is a very famous chain of restaurants in Lucknow, its kebabs are extremely famous with people flocking over from different corners of the world to taste them. Other famous dishes are biryanis, kormas, nahari- kulchas, zarda, sheermals, roomali rotis, and many more. The chaats, kulfis, and street foods here are also quite good. A famous sweet dish from here is Malai Makhan.
Festivals - Almost all festivals are celebrated in Lucknow with full enthusiasm. The popular festivals are Holi, Diwali, Dussehra, Eid, and Christmas. The streets and markets are decorated and are crowded with people during these fates. Apart from this, there are certain events organized to entertain the people.
