Introduction

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is known for this slogan. Those of us who are Nigerians will understand how funny it sounds when they hear this phrase. It's usually funny because that statement is not true. Rather, it is an irony of whom the Nigeria Police is. Don't close down just immediately, I'll share my experience with you.

Is police your friend? If yes back up your answers,if No explain.

No. I understand that, in reality, the police were supposed to be our friends because their job is to protect the citizens and their properties. But it is a sad reality, because those who should be our friends, being watchful, are the people who cause us so much pain.

The police is not my friend because of the actions and activities of some of these elements, because I understand that some of them are very nice and know their work very well. Those who are friends truly care, but the Nigeria Police Force are thorns on the flesh of the citizens.

I remember the case of the #Endsars protest in October 2020. Individuals came out to protest against a section of the force who were known for unlawful arrest, torturing and even killing citizens. Our friends can't violate our rights, they can't subject us to to unlawful torture and suffering in detention like the Nigerian police do. Maybe the police are people's friends in other countries in the world, but definitely not in Nigeria.

What are police jurisdiction in carrying out their work?
  • Police should protect the lives and properties of the citizens from attack of any kind. For example, protection from armed robbers, mob action popularly known as jungle justice.

  • They should investigate cases privately before making arrests and then charge the suspects to court, not putting people in unnecessary detention.

  • They should be on the lookout for crimes, criminal activities and criminals who destroy the peace of people in society.

  • Maintenance of law and order

Mention qualities of a good police.
  • Protection of lives and properties

  • Arrest of criminals and suspects

  • Maintenance of peace, ensuring peace is maintained in the society.

IHave you encountered any injustice by Police?

No, but my father told me of an experience with the police. He said he went to the nearby town close to my village. He wasn't aware there was a communal clash between two villages, so he met the police arresting every road user, tagging them as criminals.

Meanwhile, he knew nothing about the incident. By the time he was trying to explain himself, he said a police officer used the edge of his pistol and heat the top of his eyes, causing him to bleed. It took God's intervention for him to be bailed out of detention and to also close the case. Of course, he wasn't the only who was arrested.

Do you agree on dismissal of corrupt police officer? Or other punishment should be given

They should be dismissed. There's this secondary school classmate of mine who was dismissed for involvement in armed robbery. For me, it was a well deserved punishment. If they're only punished, others won't learn their lessons.

Earnestly speaking, some Nigeria Police let me not generalized it,have deviated from their job jurisdiction and embrace injustice and personal gain,They rather exempt the culprit and punish the innocent which is not suppose to be so, there's no proper investigation especially those police standing on the road side. Immediately you give them token change they will free you .
I can't let my child become police officer because of the level of corruption and injustice characters they exhibit.

Thank you for inviting me to this contest.
I wish you good luck

In my childhood I was afraid of police. I never seen or visited any police station till my adulthood. We were made to feel that police is very rude and harsh. I never bribed any police personally. But on behalf of my employer I handled over cash to police personnel under the table. Once they receive cash from you, they lose their personality totally and they always nag you for cash or goods. Now I don't fear any police. I can talk to them loudly. Actually police now-a-days have become slave of the rulling parties. They act at the direction of their political bosses. Now in our state corrupted political leaders have started blaming lower caders of police . Recently the Junior Doctors Front gifted a symbolic spine to Police Commissioner of the city for his spineless activities and they also successfully removed him from the post by the movement.

Wow! I thought these things only happen in Nigeria. Police have proved that they can never be satisfied and be nice. It's well o.

I appreciate your nice comment sir.
