I coordinated with the Field Facilitator to review the progress of the implementation of the construction of toilets complete with fabricated septic tanks that are in accordance with national standards. Kuala Langsa Village is the location of our visit this time, where there are 90 construction units in the houses of the community located on the coast of the sea.
The weather conditions that have entered the rainy season affect the work process which has become a little hampered, not to mention adjustments to the tides in making castings that intersect with the subgrade, it is because the position of the community's houses is all above the water, which is a challenge in itself.
When I arrived at the location, I was awaited by the Head of the Self-Help Group who was responsible for the implementation of this Sanitation Quality Improvement Program. So I, the Field Facilitator and the Head of the Self-Help Group together went around to several points of the location as a sample review.
I saw that the community was very grateful for this development program, it was clear from the expression when we entered the back area of their house, I also asked one of the beneficiaries "how is it sir, is there anything missing?", "Oh no sir, we are actually grateful to have been given assistance" that was the answer of Mr. Faisal.
It is something that must be addressed indeed, if we look at the way of life of the Kuala Langsa Village community with their habits so far where their sewage is discharged directly into the water under their houses, because of the unavailability of land and the inadequate sanitation infrastructure they have.
The basis of my review was whether the construction of the toilets and septic tanks were in accordance with the required plans and specifications.
I found that the performance of the community group was very good, the toilets were built from the foundation, floor, walls and roof in accordance with what was planned. According to the report I received, there are still 20 locations under construction with less than a month to go, but the group leader is confident that he can complete the work on time by deploying 5 work teams.
After the tour, the head of the community group invited us to one of the stalls around the village to sit for a while to unwind while enjoying food and drinks. Without thinking, we moved to a place called WTC. I was ordered Aceh Prawn Noodles and Coconut Water, very appetizing.
We ate our food while chatting about many things, from sports to politics.
At the end of this meeting we agreed to jointly continue to oversee the process of sanitation infrastructure development in Kuala Langsa Village, so that it can get optimal results and the village community and the surrounding environment become healthier.
