Big thanks to our teacher @ashkhan for explaining this it Learning Challenge-S21W1; Frozen Shoulder topic very well every step. So here I will go to the main topic by answering few questions. So let's begin.

Physical therapy is a medical procedure used to treat and rehabilitate physical disabilities, pain, and any type of complication or injury in the body. It is primarily administered by specially trained physical therapists and uses a variety of methods and techniques.

So the importance of physical exercise is immense for many reasons. It improves health, mental health, physical fitness, weight control, long-term health benefits. So physical exercise is very important for health and it benefits both physically and mentally.

What's frozen shoulder? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post.

There are total 206 bones in our human body. Now by frozen shoulder I mean, frozen shoulder is a disease that causes stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint. This results in a gradual loss of shoulder mobility and may eventually become completely stiff. This condition is usually caused by thickening of the shoulder joint capsule. which is caused by inflammation of the connective tissue. However, frozen shoulder is divided into three stages as shown in the table below.

Freezing StageIn this stage pain gradually increases and shoulder movement becomes limited.
Frozen StageThe shoulder becomes very stiff and the pain may decrease somewhat, but the movement of the shoulder is further reduced.
Thawing StageIn this stage shoulder mobility begins to slowly return.

Frozen shoulder is most common between the ages of 40 and 60 and is relatively more common in women. So this is frozen shoulder.

How would you diagnose a frozen shoulder? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?

First of all, I am not a doctor, I only learned about frozen shoulder from our teacher's course. So here are some steps to follow to diagnose frozen shoulder which are usually done under the supervision of a doctor. Below are the steps for proper diagnosis.

  • I will observe the symptoms first. The main symptoms of frozen shoulder are gradually increasing pain in the shoulder and limitation of shoulder movement. If it is difficult to rotate or lift the shoulder and this problem lasts for several weeks to months, then it may be a sign of frozen shoulder.

  • Physical examination of the patient. Because all doctors usually test shoulder range of motion and strength. This means that there is a problem in the movement of the shoulder in some direction. X-rays will then be used to diagnose bone problems and rule out other problems.

I would like to know the clinical history or previous medical history. Because all doctors will want to know your history of previous injuries, arthritis or diabetes. Because these conditions can increase the risk of frozen shoulder. However, it is very important to consult an experienced doctor to properly diagnose frozen shoulder.

Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practising.

I like to do practical. So in this step I am going to share with you all my physical exercises to fix a frozen shoulder. Our teacher showed some physical exercises. That's why out of his highlighted list of exercises I decided to go for the three below and also demonstrate how I practiced them. I have made a video of them and added the YouTube link.

1st practiceWand Shoulder Flexion
  • The stick shoulder flexion exercise is a beneficial stretching exercise for frozen shoulder that helps increase shoulder mobility. For this a long stick or stick like a small piece of bamboo should be taken. I took the exercise dumbbells I had with me. Then I held both ends of the stick with both hands. I put both hands shoulder width apart. Keep your back straight and breathe normally. Then slowly lift the stick up from the front until I feel a stretch in my shoulders. But try to lift the stick as far as you can comfortably but don't strain if it hurts. See the video below as an example.

2nd practiceShoulder Circles
  • The shoulder circle exercise is done to strengthen the shoulder muscles and increase shoulder flexibility. So I stood up and raised my arms straight up to shoulder height. Then I turned the shoulders forward and made a small circle. Keep your hands at head height if you are standing or sitting. In this way, I made circles in front and back several times. During this exercise the body position will be correct and the shoulder muscles should be stretched. See the video below as an example.

3rd practiceCross Body Stretch
  • The cross body stretch is a simple and effective exercise that helps relax the muscles of the shoulders and upper body. Stand in a comfortable position to do this. Then bring my right hand forward in front of the body and keep the arm parallel. Then with my left hand I held the right elbow or the part of the hand. Now pull the right hand towards the left side of the body with the left hand. So at this time you will feel tension in the side of your right shoulder and arm. I kept it in this condition for a few seconds. But do it slowly while pulling and don't apply too much pressure. Doing this stretch will increase your shoulder flexibility and help reduce pain. See the video below as an example.

Our teacher explained them very well so I think I did this exercise perfectly. So I'll wait for his reaction when he sees it.

Share your review after performing these exercises either on healthy individual or patient.

Cross body stretches and other stretching exercises will be very beneficial for healthy individuals and patients. However, there may be some differences in their usage. Helps increase flexibility of shoulder and upper body muscles for a healthy person. Helps relax muscles during work or after physical activity. Its regular stretching helps prevent pain and stiffness.

On the other side, it can be an effective stretch during rehabilitation for patients with shoulder or muscle problems. This can help them reduce shoulder pain and increase mobility. Helps reduce shoulder stiffness when done regularly for patients.

However, patients should consult a doctor or physiotherapist before starting exercise. Especially if they have a specific health problem or injury. Exercise should be stopped if any discomfort or severe pain is felt. So cross body stretch will be effective for healthy individuals and patients. However, depending on the situation, caution should be exercised.

Hi! It's great that with this course we can learn more about the body and the different factors that can cause discomfort, specifically in the shoulder; even if we are not doctors, it's good to have an idea of how to diagnose it in case a family member suffers from it so we can help them.

Have a nice day!

Thank you so much for spending your precious time on this post and giving such a wonderful comment.

Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.

Observations

Task 1 (2.7/3)
You have shared a good knowledge about frozen shoulder, it's stages. That's good you made a table and add relevant data but there are 4 stages if you read lesson post again and first stage is pre-freezing stage when symptoms starts develop. You can also add the phases of frozen shoulder. You need to add a bit more depth about frozen shoulder. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (2.7/3)
In the second question, you tell me about the physical examination of frozen shoulder patient, investigation like X ray but the best investigation for such diseases related to muscles or tendons is MRI, CT scan or Ultrasound. You can also add at least 1 or 2 special tests like speed test, yergason test, and many more. You answer this question well. Good.

Task 3 (3.9/4)
You try the wand shoulder flexion, shoulder circles, and cross body stretch in a good way. But shoulder circles should be performed in forward and backward directions you performed only in forward direction. Cross body stretch and wand shoulder flexion perform in correct position. Remember always apply heating pad before performing these exercises. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a good try to answer all the questions. I have seen that you have little tightness in your upper body muscles that doesn't allow you to complete the movements in full range for that you need stretching and strengthening of your muscles appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from any shoulder pathology or you suffer from such condition. Thank you.
