Blockchains have gained significant attention as a transformative technology. All blockchains are created equal. Some are based on concept of permissioned and rest are permissionless blockchains. They are different in nature on transparency, security and decentralization.
Permissioned Blockchains: It is also known as private or consortium blockchains. They are restricted networks where access and participation are controlled by a central entity or a group of entities. This is the category that we normally see in blockchain World. Here only approved participants called nodes are allowed to validate transactions, add new blocks to the chain and maintain the ledger as we can see in Hyperledger Fabric, R3 Corda etc.

In permissioned blockchains, participants must obtain permission from the governing authority to join the network. These networks are typically designed for specific organizations. The centralized authority maintains control over the membership. Only central authority are allowed to enforce rules and regulations. They prioritize privacy by limiting access to transaction details and sensitive information.

Participants have the ability to encrypt data or restrict its visibility to specific parties within the network. These blockchains generally offer higher transaction throughput and scalability compared to permissionless blockchains. Since the number of participants is limited and known thus consensus mechanisms can be optimized for faster processing and confirmation times.
Permissionless Blockchains: Permissionless blockchains also known as public blockchains.

They open networks that allow anyone to participate without requiring prior approval or permission. These blockchains are built on the principles of decentralization and transparency. No single entity is controlling the network. The blockchains that we see in our regular days are of this category like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron etc.

We know about these blockchains very much because they are the main category of blockchains that we can see in our day to day world of blockchain ecosystem. In these blockchains, the security, notes, data maintenance and server maintenance are achieved with the help of collective agreement. The distributed Network and conscious mechanism makes it transparent and secure enough. The main difference of this blockchain from the previous one is the permission. Anyone can participate in this network without permission of anyone and this feature is making it accessible to all.
