WHY do people snore in their sleep?

in hive-183959 •  last year

All muscles relax during sleep. If the lumen of the pharynx was originally narrowed, then the relaxed walls of the upper airways, sagging, touch each other.

When breathing in and out, air passes forcefully through the narrowed and partially blocked soft tissues of the pharyngeal canal. The walls of the pharynx begin to vibrate and hit each other, causing snoring.
