Another article of some of my activities in the glorious region of Valencia, Spain. It follows on from this post that gives some various details of my exploits and this one with some pics of Valencia city. Now we move on to Alicante!

Again, this will be mainly pictures from some of my ‘pandemic travels’ as it were at the end of 2020 and a return to Alicante for 1 night only in 2021.

The main reason I did head to Alicante at the back end of ‘20 following a couple of weeks in Valencia, was due to flights and hedging my bets. Alicante simply has more flights and to more (UK) airports than Valencia, and at a time where everything was getting canceled and schedules changing, it was prudent to be in a place to be able to move quickly should the need arise, with a view to reassess at the start of ‘21.

Having said that, it’s worth a trip to Alicante anyway, so that was fine by me whilst the world sorted itself out. It’s well connected with Valencia - a 1hr 40min journey at around €15-20 and a pleasant ride means you can shift between the 2 should you desire.

Ok, onward…

The castle of Santa Bárbara dominates the scene and is a imposing emblem overlooking this city. Of course it’s obligatory to at least take a look and a walk up there whilst you’re in town…

A few of the promenade and streets…

And another one from the hostel on my last visit:

Also worth mentioning that most of these pics were taken around the end of November, so not a bad spot for some winter sun! Not quite 'beach weather' in terms of sunbathing, but a very pleasant climate allowing for all options.

That’s it for now. As mentioned in yesterday’s post, the next big thing coming to the area is the famous Las Fallas. I plan to make a short post on this in general and reference last year’s event, then a post after this year’s reflecting on what will be my first proper experience of it.

Stay tuned!

Cheers,
~ Adam
