In 1652 the Dutch East India Company set up station at the tip of Africa to renew its boats on the long journey to and from the East Indies By the late seventeenth century the little Cape settlement had arrived at the mountains sitting above False Bay. This rich valley was known as the Hottentots Holland after the indigenous Khoikhoi individuals in the region. In 1672 the Dutch East India Company set up a station there to create bargaining joins with the Khoikhoi in the hinterland and to give brushing to organization animals.

Willem Adriaan (1664-1733) was the third era van der Stel to hold office in the Dutch East India Company. His granddad, Adriaan van der Stel, a slave dealer of notoriety, was authority of Mauritius, where Simon van der Stel, legislative leader of the Cape (1679-1699) was conceived. In the same way as other, who served in the East Indies, Willem Adriaan, and his dad Simon were of blended plummet.
