At some point in every tour, I'm going to start craving a simple rice dish to get away from the heavier restaurant meals... and often, that does mean that you can also get something that is filling, comforting, and not too expensive either.

Just around the corner from where we were staying in Brisbane, there was this little sushi place (Mitsuki sushi). Now, I do like sushi... but I often crave warm meals... and I often like the Japanese cooked meals over the cold but still delicious sushi. My older daughter disagrees with me... but she is evidentally too young to know any better!

The Space

Mitsuki Sushi really is a bare-bones sort of place... the sort of place where you just come in and eat and then leave... not a place to hang out. Or you can get takeaway... but the time of day that I had dropped in, there was no-one else around... so, I could just sit on one of the high chair and watch a bit of YouTube whilst taking my time to eat.

... and the meals are definitely cheap! By Australian standards, you would be hard pressed to get anything much at this price point that was warm! Mostly, it would be sandwiches at best....

The Food

A nice Karaage chicken and rice dish for me! I really do like the Japanese fried chicken... I would seriously eat it so much more if it didn't sometimes cause havoc with my stomach (the oiliness....), but every now and again, it is a nice treat for myself! The serving wasn't crazily large, but just right for a lunch meal... nothing worse than overeating in the middle of the day!

Perhaps my only real gripe was the overly heavy-handed sauce and mayonnaise! But this isn't the first place to have done this...

The miso soup was pretty decent as well... but definitely serving presentation could be better for this... and the main dish. Takeaway containers for eating in is a bit tacky.... but I guess it does save on washing up, especially as it seemed like there was only one person manning the shop!

The Experience

A cheap and cheerful Japanese snack bar... I think that the next time, I won't take the time to sit and eat. I'd get takeaway and eat on a park bench or in the hotel room.... After all, if they are going to serve up in takeaway containers, I may as well take the opportunity to eat in the Sun!
