On a recent visit to Bathurst, I came across something that has to be uniquely Australian with American influences. Drive in takeaways are really something that I associate with fast food and all that trans-Atlantic influence, and it is something that I really don't like that much... that said, there is something quite handy about a takeaway drive-through when you are travelling between cities in the dark of the night.... on the other hand, I would always rather get out of the car and walk around and recharge a bit like that.

Anyway, the concept of a drive-through coffee/cafe was something that I REALLY hadn't seen before.... and it reminded me that Australia is starting to go the way of the oddly big cars. Sigh, there is something quite strange about the amount of large cars that lug around more metal and dead weight in proportion to the humans inside... I guess the easiest way to fix that ratio is to make the humans bigger and heavier on average.

Anyway, I decided that I would at least try out this little novelty of a drive-through cafe in The Brew... which sadly, is a coffee place and not a brewery! Although, that probably wouldn't really be legal!

Anyway, the experience was quite strange... someone comes out to you and asks for your order, then you drive around the turning circle and wait until it all comes out to you. There are parking spaces if you want to exit your vehicle and go into the store... but it really looked like it wasn't really thing that you were supposed to do.

Many of the other patrons looked like parents that were on the way back or to school drop offs, and there were a whole heap of tradies as well... but the roughly 1000 time was a little later than I would expect for the, they usually start pretty damn early! Maybe it was their morning coffee break?

Anyway, a quick flt white for me before doing the pothole filled obstacle course back to home... the novelty was interesting, but the coffee was pretty ordinary. Too hot, and watery... Nice to experience for a single time... but the time saved wasn't really worth the ordinary coffee experience... next time, I will go into a proper cafe and get a proper coffee for the road, even if that means I have to get out of the car and walk.
