We start our summer holiday in Italy in a town called Lazise. A sweet small village attached to the lake and very near Verona. ( for those that travelled to lake Garda before its in the southeast of the lake) . Its always, like many of the villages here, a great place to stop and spend your day. The first thing you see from the water are the medieval walls and the remains from centuries ago. I must say that in many villages along the Garda coast you see those walls and castle remains. History is everywhere and its so cool. The kids love history and it makes holidays more special if you can see that it was there way before we could enjoy its beauty. And just laying in the sun is not what we as a family love. The only one I have been in and walked up in, are the remains of the castle on Sirmione. So I cannot tell or show what the insides look like, except the exterior. It always makes the visits a bit ancient and wondering back to the old days. And the kids always ask if there are still kings and queens living there. Its 40 degrees celcius at 13.40 hour when we arrive. We come from the water , but there is a bus possibility and ofcourse by car its also good to visit.
The harbour is small and surrounded with the old walls still tact from the 18th century. Photo credit : I took the photo.

This is the harbour lake side, and the church in my photo is called Church of saint Nicoló. I know the name because its beside the boat house ticket machine so I just copied the name. There is no website to tell you about this church. The second church here in Lazise is personal and I will tell you why later in the week.

Behind the cay the old walls and towers begins the old town and its old village near the new restaurants in the city centre.

A part of the castle is not accessible and that is because its privately owned. But inside is the old village and you can see parts of the old castle. And ofcourse when you go inside and visit. We did not because of the heat and because we wanted to have lunch in the courtyard square infront of the municipal building.
The square is called Vittorio Emanuele square, and is very well know because of the mayor’s office. A great square and amazing when its empty. For a photofeed that is. I had to wait a few minutes but because it was lunch I catched an empty beautiful checkerboard tiled square. And it was well wurth the wait because an empty square in the busy holiday season in summer is not that easy to achieve. Here is the proof I made the shots.

We travelled via the water, a great way of transportation.

Ofcourse I failed like 20 times before the square was mine hahahahah

I also visited the special church, it is a parish church , not so big but so beautiful it deserves its own blog and the story why we always go there and light special candles.

I will use this image ( my image made july 2023 ) again in the special, yet to make travel blog, this week when I have the time, about this special church. The church is called Church Parochie of saints Zenone and Martino.

Like I wrote we came from the water. Transportation over the water is used a lot here, its quick and not that expensive and you can see many places.  The fact that there is a ferry aswell that takes you across the water from one side of the lake to the other side is like we experienced at lake Como. Here the connections are just as many like Garda and Bardolino but also Desenzano near where we are staying.
The old town has many restaurants and we decided to eat at ….. and the lunch was delicious. All the great food will be in another blog but here is one of the pictures of that fantastic italian lunch.
We ate at GIO & MAX a great pizzeria , a great lunch opportunity and not expensive.

What this is I will tell you later this week when I have the recipe from Luca my dads best friend from Milan.

Like you see in the picture there are bikes everywhere, tours everywhere and a great way to see all the small streets , but if I am honest this is way to hot to even try. When you love cycling there is a path around the lake and when you start at our home base you also come through Lazise.
We also like this side of the lake because there are the amusement parks and there is also an aqua park here. We will be going there this holiday, its fun and because of the warm warm weather a great escape.
The boat ferry dock which will take you back to the other side to for example Desenzano.

For me the market in Lazise is a must see aswell, only we will do the market in Moniga del Garda on Monday morning and the market in Desenzano del Garda  on tuesday morning when we do the groceries on the way there. But when you have a choice , go to this Lazise market on Wednesday with the craft part in the market. Its beautiful. I bought a hat last year in Lazise. Three days markets and my family will kill me. To be honest the markets all have a bit of the same things to sell, so two markets in one holiday is enough.
I had a great day, and I will finish of with a photo feed of this pure italian beauty.
