After knowing my life partner for more than a decade, hence, having celebrated over 10 birthdays together, every year seems like a gradually elevated challenge. *Similar to levelling your character when you are at level 88 or 99 and just to get to the next level seems like forever*.
Therefore, this year, like every other year, I was looking for something special. I had a lengthy meeting with Google and after many hours, I came across a local barbecue restaurant with a unique dining experience and setting.
Getting straight to the unique point, as the saying goes "a picture tells a thousand stories" 👇🏽😎
Dining on a stream; savouring a warm plate of succulent food (we will come to the food part later😋) whilst soaking our feet in the cool/cold stream water from the Kemensah Waterfalls. Kemensah Waterfall is located approximately 20 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur City Centre; next to the national zoo (Zoo Negara) which is currently closed indefinitely due to the pandemic situation in Malaysia.
Approximately 30 minutes drive from the vibrant city centre and our scenery transforms to a tranquil lush greenery landscape with cool fresh air. Air that feels cool, refreshing, light and clean as it flows through our nostrils. The scent of the damp earth and plant transpiration floods the air around us. The noises from the high vehicle and human traffic, multimedia and monorail were replaced with the sound of streaming water flowing downstream hitting rocks and pebbles. Also, sounds of people chatting, screaming in joy followed by the sounds of loud splashes of water, leaves rustling against each other and animals (known and unknown)😜.
The sight along with the smell and sound of mother nature calms the senses and mind. EXCEPT, every now and then when some people screech continuously to discipline their child or when a baby cries continuously. At a place like this, it is very easy to go back into a zen mode when the unfavourable sounds subside or calls it a day.
The air too will get contaminated every now and then due to the aromatic smoke emitted from barbecuing lamb, beef, chicken and sorts. BBQ Lamb KL Kemensah (the name of the restaurant) serves western and local Malay cuisine. It is operated by the local Malays (Muslims), hence, the food served is Halal. Their menu comes in varieties of sets from 2 pax to 4 pax and more ranging from Malaysian Ringgit ("MYR") 30.00 to MYR 200.00. You can choose to barbecue lamb, duck, beef, chicken, fish, squid and prawns. Each set comes with herb rice (tasted like briyani rice but not as flavourful), coleslaw, fruits, soup of the day, cocktail and FREE refillable drinks! 😁
We've ordered the Mixed Meat Set for 2 pax for MYR 90.00. Once we were seated in the middle of the stream, we were served with cocktails, fruits and 4 small plastic cups to refill our drinks.
The refillable drinks are stored in water containers along the left and right bank. Hence, we had the walk through the relatively strong currents to the nearest water container to refill our drinks. At certain areas, it can get slippery too. Therefore, my loving and concerned life partner, being less of a clutz, offered to refill our drinks and the next thing I know, we were chasing after his sandal! as the strong currents carried his sandal from left to right and right to left downstream relatively rapidly that we were not able to reach it in time before it got carried away again. Our clown moment and highlight of the trip.
Left with only one sandal, he decided to walk barefooted back to our table. We were then served our main course. The MEAT set. Meat overload!
My favourite was the BBQ duck. Honestly, between the lamb and beef, I could not differentiate which is which....ooopssss😅. The meats were all flavourful and nicely barbecued. The juiciness retained. Lean meat = healthier choice and the sauces went well with the meat too. Though slightly too sweet for my liking as the meats' marinade is also slightly sweet.
Overall, the meal was decently delightful. However, once paired with the unique outdoor dining-on-a-stream environment, it becomes AWESOME!
The feeling of having your feet being massaged gently by the continuous strong currents of the stream and soaked in fresh, clean and cool/cold water from the hill is.............sensational. #healingpowersofnature #naturalhealing #aunatural
We sat there for some time to enjoy the moment; appreciate nature and be thankful for this moment we are in - simple yet majestic.
As the sun began to set, we got ready to leave barefooted and feeling apologetic to mother nature for unintentionally littering (the sandal that got carried away)😅.
If you are a nature lover and/or outdoorsy person, this is definitely worth a try.
p/s: it is highly recommended to book in advance (required to pay MYR 50.00 upfront in advance too), else, the queue can be ridiculously long (up to 1.5 hours wait?).
