I would like to share this amazing experience of visiting White Temple in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. As the same it explains the temple is fully white in color. This Temple is owned by the artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, who designed, constructed by his own money. Still the work is going on.
He has built this temple so creatively before we reach the main building of the Temple we get to see many different kind of architecture. Each one has different meanings about our life.
The Bridge (The Cycle of Rebirth): TO reach the main building of the temple first we need to cross this bridge. We can see under the bridge there are hundreds of outreaching hands that symbolize unrestrained desire. The bridge proclaims that the way to happiness is by foregoing temptation, greed, and desire. Next to the lake stand two very elegant half-human, half-bird creatures from Buddhist mythology.
Gate of Heaven: Next we get this gate where we can see two statue of guards Death and Rahu (Ruhu is one of the nine major astronomical bodies in Indian texts. Believed that he causes the eclipses and is the king of meteors).
Ubosot: This is the main building (The White Temple). The Ubosot embodies design elements from classic Thai architecture such as the three-tiered roof and abundant use of Nagas (Snakes). Inside the temple, the decor swiftly moves from pristine white to fiery and bewildering. Murals depict swirling orange flames and demon faces, interspersed with Western idols such as Neo from The Matrix, Michael Jackson, Freddy Krueger and T-800 series Terminator. Images of nuclear warfare, terrorist attacks such as the World Trade Center attack, and oil pumps hammer home the destructive impact that humans have had on earth. The presence of Harry Potter, Hello Kitty and Superman is bit confusing but the overall message what the artist wanted to convey is people are wicked :P
The Golden Building: This is the separate building next to the White Temple. It is said that white building represents our mind and the Golden building represents our body. They colored it golden because how people focus on worldly desires and money.
The story behind the newly built temple is there was one already a local Buddhist temple, which was damaged on 2014 May 5th by the earthquake. Chalermchai the localite of this place took an initiative to rebuild the Temple again.
There is an entry fee for this temple for foreigners its 100 Thai Baht which they are using for maintenance of the temple and and this place has got a huge parking lot ass well.
