The Dragon Bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam is a beautiful mix of the old and the new.
The bridge is a symbol of the ancient and the new, which is why the bridge is a popular tourist destination for both foreigners and Vietnamese.
Built by the French in 1889, the original bridge was destroyed by a flood in 1945. In 1993, the bridge was reconstructed using the original designs. It is now a symbol of the city of Danang, with its French colonial history.
Every Sunday at 9 PM, the city comes out to the mouth of the Dragon, here the Dragon does a few breaths a fire ball by a big spray of water. People are playing music on the street, vendors are selling food and everyone gathers this weekly tradition.
Last Sunday I went to visit the Dragon bridge at night to take a look. Here are some photos from the adventure!
The Dragon Bridge is the symbol of the city of Danang and also the most beautiful and one of the most photographed attractions in the city. The Dragon Bridge is a symbol of the people of Danang and of the Han ethnic group.
After parking my bike you walk up a set of stairs full of people, all traveling to see the Dragon show!
The crowds on top of the bridge are pretty intense. With at least 100 to 300 people standing around watching and waiting, all on the sidewalks while busy cars and motorbikes is by.
Local vendors sell balloons the kids, I do have to appreciate the quality of their balloon skills. Lol. So NICE!
There is even this poor soul who has to dress up like a giant teddy bear and sell lollipops. But don't get me wrong that outfit is pretty rad and I might wear a hat like that as well.
Then at 9 PM they stopped the traffic on the road, and everyone floods into the street to take notice of the show.
The Dragon first does a few breaths of fire, probably many adoring fans below much like myself hold their cell phones up like a worship and take pictures.
It is quite a nice site to see a giant fireball traveling the sky. You could even feel a little heat on your face, but is not "scary"... Or at least not from where I was standing.
After the Dragon seems quiet like he's resting, but you can hear some plunking and hissing happening below the bridge... What could potentially becoming?
The Dragon then lets out a delugue of water into the air, anybody within close distance of it instantly becomes drenched in the water from the river below. I'm not too sure about the hygiene of it so I stay out of the water. :D.
It truly does let out a lot of water.
The kids and people for the most part enjoy themselves as they run for cover, though I think some are not expect the water and up getting completely wet when they don't want to. lol.
It is a nice and beautiful experience to stand out there with the city and feel like you're all their part of the giant show.
If you are in Da Nanga, I do recommend you come check it out. For myself I know I'll be back take more pictures!
I hope you enjoyed this series of photos from the Dragon bridge and you find yourself time to go adventure and travel!
Much love~
