As a traveler and digital nomad, I get to see all sorts of tourist hotspots as well as remote natural hide-aways in my journeys. And perhaps the most valuable real estate on the entire south coast of Africa (excluding Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula) would be here in Plettenberg Bay. That’s my personal opinion, having checked out most of the beach resorts along these fine shores.
Not only is Plett, as the locals call it, one of the most picturesque beaches in the land, but is is perhaps also one of the most pleasant weather conditions all year long. Now that is a double winning recipe for world class location and thus top of the range real estate.
These palatial buildings are situated practically on the sands of the beach, with the warm Indian ocean just yards or meters away. It might be compared to any top seaside resort in the world, like Thailand or other such third world tropical environments where tourists love to flock, yet only the richest can afford to spend some time.
Meanwhile the super-rich get to buy their homes here, or at least one of their homes. Many of these houses are empty most of the year and remain available as seasonal summer beach holiday houses. The millionaires who own these houses love to spend their summer months right at the very topmost tourist destination in southern Africa, and perhaps the world.
Not only that but the real estate here is such a good investment that you can park your wealth here off-shore in real estate. Unless there are laws against that here in South Africa. There might just be strict laws prohibiting the ownership of too much real estate by foreigners. I will have to check that, but I have a slight memory of such a law being passed a few years ago.
So sorry mates, you will have to go the usual route and find a local to go in as a partner with you as you invest in your real estate here. They don’t call this stretch of coastline millionaire’s mile for nothing. This is secret hidden gem of a place on the planet and today I’m sharing it with you.
My discoveries here on the south Cape coast of Africa are legendary, and you are getting to find out about them right here. Thus real estate might not be in our income bracket, but it does go to show just how up market this region is and just how valuable the conditions are here to those at the top of the ladder in the world.
This particular stretch of Plett coastline where most of these houses are located is called Lookout beach. Surfers enjoy the occasional wave right here too sometimes. However, there is also a sign board showing the danger of sharks, who also frequent these shores. Surfers are of course a breed unto themselves, and they will enjoy the epic waves here regardless of the sharks, or at least outside their main season.
From these front row real estate houses, one can even see the whales in the bay during their annual visits, which are due in coming weeks actually, now that winter is approaching. It’s a marine wildlife paradise and a super mild climate all year long at this hidden world class gem of Plettenberg Bay. If you ever get the chance then do make a visit. You may like it so much that you decide to stay. Many already have.
