We came here at the beginning of August and again just before Obon in the middle of August, just before the Shizuoka beaches all closed because of the rising coronavirus cases..

We came here twice, because the water is pretty clear, the waves are a decent size, its not so far from Mishima, where we live, (compared to many other beaches in Izu), the car parks are a decent price to park in and Ito Marine Town is just down the road with many restaurants for lunch, a free foot hot-spring with a lovely view over the harbour and there's a decent and pretty large hot-spring there too, which we took full advantage of at lunch and after leaving the beach in the evening.

The beach is really in two halves: The first, near all the car parks is a very narrow sandy beach which virtually disappears at high tide, then the river in the middle, which has deposited a huge array of knee and foot scraping rocks into the sea, and finally the main beach, which is a bit of a walk from the car parks, but is great, with sand going right out into the sea, decent waves and never disappears unlike the other half of the beach.

The first day we didn't really know the beach so we set up our tent near the car parks. There are waves here, but only near the river, and after a few bruises from the rocks, we just swam around the wave-less sandy areas.

The first time we stayed on the narrow part of the beach.

The second day we came here, we pitched the tent along the main road, this was a better place, sandy and with nice waves and no rocks around.

At this beach, you can easily go body boarding, which we are into now, there were surfers there also, you can see fish swimming in the water and, being on the east coast of Izu, the afternoon sun goes behind your tent, if you have one, giving you some shade and stops you getting too sun burnt.

A very nice beach which I will definitely come back to next year.
