Isla Incahuasi is a former island situated in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia.
About 40,000 years ago, there was a giant prehistoric where the Salar is located today.
The place was submerge and the island is in fact the top of an ancient volcano.
Isla Incahuasi appears as a mirage in the vastness of the Uyuni Salar.
The sunrise and sunset are amazing, the white desert and wildlife is perfect for any nature lovers.
The island is covered with hundreds of cacti, some of which are up to 12 meters high.
These aren't the tallest or prettiest cacti on the island, but I find their hairy look interesting.
The island is also covered with fossils and algae.
We have to be careful where we walk, because there is a kind of fragile coral-like structure in some places.
From the top we can see the sea salt desert and confirm we are in the middle of nowhere.
The vastness of the desert makes us feel very small.
We were alone during the whole crossing of the Uyuni salt desert, except in a few rare places like this one.
Here we can see that this is a popular place.
