What is Steemit and Steemit Power?

Steemit which is becoming increasingly popular everyday is a decentralized social media website that was built with the purpose of rewarding users for making content and for curating content. The platform is capable of rewarding users due to the fact that it was designed and built on a Blockchain technology called Steem Blockchain. It rewards users with its own cryptocurrency called Steem. There are three main currencies on Steemit or the Steem Blockchain. It includes and only limited to ; Steem token, Steem power and Steem Backed Dollars or Steem Dollars (SBD). Steem is the tradable token that can or may be transferred at anytime to anywhere. Steem power is influence tokens that gives and determines the voting or curating power of a curator and how well an author's post does on the platform and communities. Steem Dollar is another Steem token which is usually pegged with the dollar and has a higher value than Steem token itself. By default, whenever an author earns rewards by posting blogs, the reward earned is split half and half with one half sent into his or her Steem tokens and the other have sent into his or her Steem Power. The user has the option to convert the Steem tokens into Steem Power which is a process termed Powering Up. A user can also convert Steem Power tokens back into tradeable Steem Tokens in a process called Powering Down. Now you might ask why powering up is a feature and why it is so necessary.

Why is powering up so necessary?

As explained in the above subtopic, powering up is converting Steem into SteemPower. Steem power is a measure of a user's influence on the platform. In my experience as a blogger on Steemit, I noticed something quite interesting. I didn't use to power up initially when I started out on Steemit. I use to hold my Steem tokens just like that. At that time, I had little Steem Power. When I made blog posts, I had to wait for a while before seeing a few curators curating my post. The reason it took so much time to see curators curate my posts is because my posts where not too visible to those curators. My posts where not showing or trending enough for more curators to see and curate the post. However, a couple of weeks ago, I started the habit of powering up everything I earned with the objective of becoming #club100 qualified. I noticed that as my Steem Power practically doubled and increased, I started getting curations faster and faster after making my blog posts. I started seeing new curators curate my blog posts. I had #booming01 #booming02 and #booming03 curate my posts more often. The booming team curate quality posts that have joined the #club5050 #club75 #club100 initiative. I saw great progress in my blogging work. This made me realize that the more SteemPower I get the more influence I'll get. This developed in me the habit of powering up everything as a form of future investment. It is truly a goal for me to become a Steemit Whale and be as successful as some of the most successful people on the platform. There are users with high voting power and high level of influence on Steemit. They could make short blog posts and earn hundreds of dollars or Steem on that single post. They are able to reach more audience with their work and blogs. That is my goal on Steemit. To become a big influence on the platform.

Conclusion

I hope you finally understand the value and power of Steem Power. It will determine your success on the platform. It is a form of investment into the future as a content creator or a curator. Always try to focus on investing into your Steem power especially as a newcomer rather than thinking of quickly withdrawing little to no Steem in your initial stage on Steemit.
