Watching the Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid with some friends in a local café on 8 February 2025 was a great experience, the match at the Santiago Bernabéu ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats.

highlights:

• Atletico opener from the penalty (35'): Atletico were awarded a penalty after Tchouameni fouled Lino, and VAR confirmed that Alvarez had scored with a Panenka-style overhead kick..

• Mbappé equaliser (50'): Kylian Mbappé levelled the score with a close range effort after Jude Bellingham header had hit the bar and fallen in front of him.
  It was Mbappé's 16th goal in La Liga this season.

• Close chances : Bellingham headed against the crossbar in the 51st minute. Jan Oblak made a great save, including a superb save from Mbappe in the 89th minute. Angel Correa had a potential winner ruled out for Atletico for offside in stoppage time.

real madrid started strongly, with creative midfielders Brahim Diaz, Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga,
atletico are known for their resilience and counter-attacking, they had a strong squad, with substitutes Angel Correa and Alexander Sorloth ready to exploit space.

La Liga Heats Up:
real Madrid stay top of La Liga with 50 points, one ahead of Atlético Madrid, Barcelona (45 points) could close the gap with a win against Sevilla on February 9. La Liga is on fire.

The derby showed the high level of competition in La Liga this season, both teams showed skill, tactics and resilience in a thrilling game. for me as a fan, watching such a high calibre campitation with friends made it even more exciting, the result showed the strengths of both teams and set up an exciting title race.
