Unforgettable Trip #35 | Kadurugoda Ancient Temple | Beautiful Sri Lanka

How are you friends, I hope you are all well. I haven't been able to participate in the "Unforgetable Itali" contest for the past few weeks because I've been really busy. I hope to participate again from this week. Today I am going to talk about another tourist spot in Sri Lanka with archaeological value. Kadurugoda Ancient Temple is an archaeologically valuable site located in the northern province of Sri Lanka. Ok Let's move to the story without further ado.

The history of the historic Kadurugoda Purana Vihara dates back to the time of Lord Buddha. Excavations were carried out from 1917-1919 after being notified in writing by the then Jaffna District Judge Mr. Paul E. Peiris in 1917. Among the antiquities found are statues of Buddha, fragments of painted tiles and coins belonging to the Anuradhapura and Polonnaru eras, which belong to the eras of Parakumba I and kings Malla, Lilavati and Bhuvanakabahu.

A tam letter named "Atthane inscription" found in this place mentions about a head made to this temple by the 4th King Kasyapa in the 9th century AD. This confirms that the temple existed until the 9th century AD.

The Buddha statue and other archaeological objects found at this site are on public display in the Jaffna Museum. In the 16th century, the remains of 60 Arhats were treasured and 60 dagabs were built in this place.
