Oggi sono stata a visita medica (medico generico che è anche la mia ginecologa e ho approfittato per rilevare la questione della vista). Notizie buone e notizie cattive, anzi, per meglio dire, notizie buone e ipotesi cattive, dato che la mia dottoressa non è oculista e quindi non può essere certa di quali malanni hanno colpito la mia vista. Vabbè, cominciamo dalle cattive ipotesi, per non lasciarvi con l'amaro in bocca al finale, concentrandoci invece su quelle buone. L'ipotesi cattiva starebbe nella possibile doverosità di una chirurgia oculare, per la quale non farei esattamente salti di gioia. Nella mia città c'è una vera e propria epidemia di interventi chirurgici agli occhi e nella mia sola cerchia di amici ho contato un minimo di cinque persone operate nel giro di poco più di un anno. Uno di loro ha purtroppo perso la vista in un occhio mentre si trovava sotto i ferri. Si era rivolto a un ospedale pubblico e non vorrei dire che la perdita della sua vista in quell'occhio sia stata la conseguenza di non essersi potuto permettere la costosa operazione in una struttura privata. Per il primo occhio operato nello stesso ospedale, nessuna conseguenza negativa, anzi. E su questo fronte, alla struttura privata non posso pensare tanto quanto il mio amico: ciascun occhio operato costa quattromila se va bene. Se fosse, spero poter scegliere l'ospedale pubblico della città più vicina che ha trattato una mia anziana amica e dove s'era trovata bene. Vedremo comunque cosa salterà fuori dagli esami, ai quali dovrei accedere in città in una clinica oftalmologica a prezzi popolari, il cui indirizzo mi ha passato la dottoressa (ecco una buona notizia: posso evitare di viaggiare per trovare un oculista in una struttura pubblica senza che mi pelino come una cipolla):

Non sono nuova a questo farmaco che serve per malanni muscolari (praticamente sono dosi da cavallo di vitamina B12 e forse altro del gruppo B e funzionano alla grande). L'avevo preso anni e anni fa e adesso dovrei fare una cura per un mese. Ma costa un botto (circa un terzo di quanto guadagno in un mese) e allora sarà l'ennesimo power down, pazienza, niente da fare. Ma la seconda buona notizia è che questo vitaminico mi risparmierà un esame clinico il triplo o il quadruplo più costoso.

Today I went to the doctor's appointment (general practitioner who is also my gynaecologist and I took the opportunity to point out the eyesight issue). Good news and bad news, or better said, good news and bad hypothesis, as she is not an ophthalmologist to be 100% sure of what is happening to my eyes. Well, let's start with the bad hypothesis, so as not to leave you with a bitter taste in your mouth at the end, concentrating instead on the good. The bad hypothesis would lie in the possible need for eye surgery, for which I would not exactly jump for joy. In my city there is a real epidemic of eye surgeries and in my circle of friends alone I have counted a minimum of five people operated on in just over a year. One of them unfortunately lost his sight in one eye while in surgery. He had gone to a public hospital and I would not like to say that the loss of his sight in that eye was the consequence of not being able to afford the expensive surgery in a private facility. For the first eye operated on in the same hospital, no negative consequences, quite the contrary. And in my case, I also cannot think about a private facility as much as my friend: each operated eye costs four thousand, if not more. If I'll need a surgery, I hope to be able to choose the public hospital in the nearest city that treated a third aged friend of mine, where she was well treated. Anyway, we'll see what comes out of the exams, which I should be able to access in my city at a popular ophthalmology clinic, the address of which the doctor passed on to me (here's some good news: I can avoid travelling to find an ophthalmologist in a public facility without the cost of an arm and a leg):

I'm not new to this drug which is used for muscle ailments (it's basically horse-sized doses of vitamin B12 (and perhaps other belonging to the B group and it works great). I had taken it years and years ago and now I'm supposed to take it for a whole month. But it costs a fortune (about a third of what I earn in a month) and so it will be yet another power down, I can't help. But the second piece of good news is that this vitamin will save me from a clinical examination three or four times as expensive.
