Unforgettable Italy. The Colosseum [ENG-ITA]

Hi Guys, this is my post for the contest Unforgettable Italy. The post has been written both in English and in Italian. Thanks to the whole Italy community for this type of contest!

The photo was taken with my Samsung Galaxy S8 the last time I was in Rome, about a month and a half ago.

Certainly part of the most famous Italian monuments in the world, as well as a symbol of the greatness and magnificence of the Roman Empire, the Colosseum is one of the seven wonders of the modern world. It is believed that it was built under the Flavian dynasty (the original name, in fact, was "the Flavian amphitheater"), in particular the construction should have been ordered by Vespasiano and then completed and inaugurated by the emperor Tito in 80 AD.

Originally, the Flavian amphitheater was a place for shows and social gatherings, although most people only know its function as an arena for gladiator combat. The monument represents a masterpiece of engineering and architecture and, personally, I am fascinated by it every time I go to Rome. The things that attract me most is the thought that such a work could have been built so many years ago!

Over time, the Colosseum has also been the subject of numerous legends. The most famous is certainly the one that considers the monument as one of the seven gates to hell (although what intrigues me most is the belief that the souls of the gladiators who died in the arena wandered into the structure during the night).

I have friends from Rome that I visit at least once a year, as we have known each other since childhood. Every time I go to them, I can't avoid going to the Colosseum, so much so that they often criticize me because I always want to do the same things. But I believe that all of you, if you have seen this magnificent monument at least once in your life, you will be on my side!

La foto è stata scattata con il mio Samsung Galaxy S8 l’ultima volta che sono stato a Roma, circa un mese e mezzo fa.

Sicuramente tra i monumenti italiani più famosi al mondo, nonché simbolo della grandezza e della magnificenza dell’impero romano, il Colosseo è una delle sette meraviglie del mondo moderno. Si ritiene che sia stato costruito sotto la dinastia Flavia (il nome originale, infatti, era “l’anfiteatro Flavio”), in particolare la costruzione dovrebbe essere stata ordinata da Vespasiano e poi ultimata e inaugurata dall’imperatore Tito nel 80 dC.

Originariamente, l’anfiteatro Flavio era un luogo per spettacoli e incontri sociali, anche se la maggior parte delle persone ne conosce esclusivamente la funzione di arena per il combattimento tra i gladiatori. Il monumento rappresenta un capolavoro di ingegneria e architettura e, personalmente, ne resto affascinato ogni volta che mi reco a Roma. Ciò che più mi attrae è il pensiero che un’opera del genere possa essere stata costruita così tanti anni fa!

Nel corso del tempo il Colosseo è stato anche oggetto di numerose leggende. La più famosa è sicuramente quella che considera il monumento come una delle sette porte per l’inferno (anche se quella che più mi incuriosisce è la credenza che le anime dei gladiatori morti nell’arena vagassero nella struttura durante la notte).

Ho degli amici di Roma che visito almeno una volta l’anno in quanto siamo legati dall’infanzia. Ogni volta che vado da loro, non posso evitare di andare al Colosseo, tant’è che loro mi criticano spesso perché voglio fare sempre le stesse cose. Ma credo che tutti voi, se avete visto almeno una volta nella vita questo magnifico monumento, sarete dalla mia parte!
