Affordable Suzhou Cuisine: A Hidden Gem Worth Trying. If you're traveling to Suzhou and looking for a budget-friendly Suzhou-style restaurant, I highly recommend giving this place a try. For a simple lunch gathering with friends, I chose Daoshan Village – Suzhou Cuisine – Squirrel Mandarin Fish again. This restaurant has branches in both Shilu and Pingjiang Road, popular spots for tourists.
We ordered nine dishes for six people, and the total bill was just over 300 RMB—about 50 RMB per person. There’s often a queue at the entrance, and their signature dishes include Squirrel Mandarin Fish and Daoshan Braised Pork Rolls. Last time, I tried the Squirrel Mandarin Fish; this time, I went for the Braised Pork Rolls. The decor is traditional and charming, while the prices are very reasonable. Even at 2 p.m., the restaurant was packed with both locals and tourists. The Shilu branch is conveniently located near Metro Line 2 and offers underground parking with free parking for restaurant guests. As a bonus, if you check in and save the location, you’ll receive a complimentary Suzhou-style green bean cake. Their marketing strategy is on point! It’s purely a personal recommendation, but all my friends said the food was delicious and affordable. Even the simplest dishes, like farm-style white radish and spring water tofu, were excellent.
