This is my 39th trip to Xinjiang. Instead of choosing the popular Altai region, I opted for the lesser-known Ili in Xinjiang.
I've already been to Altai many times during the winter, but I haven't visited Ili in winter as much.
We had an 8-day self-drive itinerary, traveling from Shanghai to Urumqi, then to Nanshan Ski Resort, Sha Wan Hot Springs, Sayram Lake, Kuerdening, and Yining, covering over 1,000 kilometers in total. We only visited three paid scenic spots: Baiyun Ski Resort, Sayram Lake, and Kuerdening. The entrance fees were as follows: Baiyun Ski Resort ticket 148 RMB, Sayram Lake self-drive entrance 140 RMB, and Kuerdening self-drive entrance 30 RMB, so the total ticket cost per person was 318 RMB.
Since I had no experience driving on snow, I originally planned to rent a Tank 300, but later decided on a Land Cruiser for more security.
The car rental for 4 days cost 3,054 RMB, with an average daily rental cost of 340 RMB, as we also purchased additional insurance and a one-way fee for returning the car in a different city. Renting the Tank 300 would have been cheaper, but we needed the extra space for four suitcases. We rented the car at Urumqi airport and returned it in Yining.
There were four of us, and we split costs equally, so it came to 750 RMB per person. For the entire trip, we paid 297 RMB in highway tolls and 1,197 RMB for fuel, which brought the total to 370 RMB per person. In total, the car rental, tolls, and fuel came to 1,120 RMB per person.
The rest of the expenses were for meals and accommodation, which we could adjust according to our preferences.
For self-driving in Xinjiang, the most beautiful scenery is on the road.
Nice photo's you shared especially with the blue air but I am glad that the snow we had here is gone again. Let's hope it stays that way.
I have no idea how much 750 RMB is. Perhaps you can lighten me up? Thank you for sharing your trip.
