After what felt like an eternity, today we finally had our a long awaited annual dinner for the second year. Due to various reasons firstly Ramadan and then the vacations, our celebration kept getting postponed uptill now, the mid of third year. But with a bit of planning and coordination, we decided to hold the event on the 1st of August, just before the third-year madness begins.
The Build-Up
Planning for this event had been going on for months. Many of our batchmates had traveled to their hometowns during vacations, making it impossible to gather everyone earlier. But August 1st seemed perfect as most students had returned, ready to celebrate and create lasting memories.
Overcoming Challenges
A day before the event, I was battling a fever , which made attending the event challenging. However, missing this event was not an option for me. I had my pass and my mind to attend it despite my health. In addition, the weather really decided to test our firmness with heavy rains. Also My car wasn't available as my brother had his meeting so I had to call a friend of mine to reach the venue safely. Thankfully, the rain stopped just in time and we reached the venue like around 5:30 PM. Taking advantage of the daylight, we clicked photographs.
The Venue and Decorations
Our university, DOW looked nothing but more than a dream at night. The decorations were in full swing, getting on beautiful lights and studded with flowers adding to the festive atmosphere. Arriving early gave us a chance to see the final touches being put up, and it made the anticipation all the more exciting.
The Event
The event started at around 7. To make the event more engaging and interesting we had a series of some fun awards and some gifts and voting that had taken place anonymously before the event on google form. Categories included 'Most Famous', 'Top Student', 'Most Handsome', 'Most Talented', and even 'Teacher's Pet' and many others. I was nominated in some. Although I didn't win any, it was really fascinating to see everyone cheer for the nominees and the winners ofcousre.
One of our talented batchmates had the guitar with himself and played it very well and there were several other performances to keep us entertained till the very end. The lights went off in the middle of the performance due to some breakdown issues so everyone had to turn on their flashlights making the event even more joyful and memorable. Once the performance ended it was time for dinner. The food was exceptional with a wide variety of dishes that catered to everyone's tastes. There were many dishes covering everyones demand, vegans and the non veg.
Unforgettable Moments
As we were taking pictures and enjoying ourselves, a sudden power outage occurred once again. Though it lasted only 10 minutes, it turned out to be one of the best parts of the night. We gathered together, sang songs, and made the best out of the situation, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Despite my illness, I wanted to capture some personal moments. I asked my friend to capture a few portraits, which turned out great. These pictures are now my new profile pictures hahah serving as a reminder of this wonderful evening.
The annual dinner was a much needed break from our routine. It was a night filled with laughter, fun, and unforgettable moments. As I sit here reminiscing about the event, the thought of returning to our regular university life tomorrow feels a bit daunting. Yet the joy and relaxation of this night will surely carry us through the coming days. Glad that I didn’t miss it.
