What would you take with you to a desert island?

Ok, once I have your attention, let’s change the question a little: what would you really need if your house reduced its size to about 7,5 square metres?

I have divided the things in the “rooms” where they are usually found in a regular house. This is what I would like to have with me:

GARAGE THINGS: Space to store two regular bikes, a bikecase,a folding bike, and other sports items. Tools and essential systems such as batteries, converter, heating system, tanks, etc that can be placed here. A folding table, two chairs and a beach umbrella. Oh! And a costume crate for wigs, pirate spades, etc.

BEDROOM THINGS: A bed. Somewhere to store clothes, blanket and bedsheets. A bedlamp for reading, a shelf with a 220v plug for my mobile and big enough to hold an alarm clock and a book.

BATHROOM THINGS: A shower with heated water. A WC plus tanks, heater, etc. Somewhere to store towels and toiletries. A little clothes horse for small items, such as swimwear and a slim tower. Laundry basket.

KITCHEN THINGS: Cooking stove. A fridge with a tiny freezer. A sink with water plug. Somewhere to store kitchen equipment and food. A window for light and ventilation. Waste bin with segregated recycle compartments. I would like an oven, but I could pass without.

DININGROOM/OFFICE THINGS: A table to eat and study. A couple of benches with storing room. A couple of 220v plug for computer and somewhere to store it. Studying light. Shelfs for at least 50 books, and someplace to store other stationery items, class notes and books, etc. I would love to fit a printer somewhere, but I’ll have to pass without it.

HALL THINGS: Somewhere to store a couple of full backpacks, to hang a coat, scarf and hat, and shoe storage.

And that’s my selection for now.

It may seem irrelevant, but it is crucial on designing my dream van house. For instance, I would go for a slim single bed. But the bed will be placed at the rear, on top of the garage. As the garage will be deep enough to hold the bikes, the bed will be wide. As the bikes are quite tall, the base of the bed will be quite high, and the van must be tall.

I am thinking about an L4H3 right now... Do you see? My van is growing post by post!

Is there anything else you would add? Anything you would leave?

Next post will be about garage space and how big two bikes plus a bike-case are. Also, about the use of origami in time/space folding and its uses when building a van camper.

What? Never heard of applicated origami in furniture building? Really?
Well, neither have I, but this girl can dream...

I was wondering if buying such van and refurnishing is better than to buy already ready with everything in it. I would probably buy already ready one. That somehow makes it easy also at the end I do not know if the price for all in total will be maybe the same? Have you tried to calculate?
