A little about me & The Café Gourmand pt.1

in hive-185836 •  4 years ago  (edited)

Yesterday I posted one of my food pictures from the days I was managing our family café in Jordan. It was a very difficult time for my family after we closed and I usually don’t like to discuss it but time can truly be a healer.

While the raw pain of losing the business has not passed, posting the photo brought a slight sense of closure. I began to recall some of the wonderful things we offered during the period we operated between 2012 until the unfortunate fall in 2018.

This morning I thought why not share with the community some of my memorable dishes.

Through the experience I learned how to cook and run a professional kitchen, which I enjoyed immensely. I especially loved researching new recipe ideas, implementing them and watching our customer’s reactions, which most of the time was very positive and inspiring.

Manakeesh
This is a very popular breakfast item in the Levant area. It is essentially a pizza but with Middle Eastern toppings and without a tomato base. Here we set up the photo to show the Halloumi cheese option, parboiled white cheese, Za’tar and spicy Dokah. (Za’tar is a mix of dried thyme leaves, sumac and sesame seeds. Dokah is the same but finer with a hint of heat)

Breakfast Croissant
This was my preferred choice for breakfast and it quickly became a star item. Simply a buttery croissant filled with creamy scrambled eggs, grilled turkey ham slices and cheddar cheese.

The pictures I present here are taken by my brother @basharalaeddin who has finally joined #Steemit but due to his busy schedule still has not officially began posting. I personally can not wait for him to do so as I would like the #worldofxpilar community to meet him enjoy his photos.

I hope you enjoyed my post which to me was quite therapeutic. I will be writing more posts in this series and I promise to share some cooking tips and little known kitchen secrets ;)
