Since this whole Covid thing started I have brought my son each day to the Pheonix Park in Dublin. This Park is amazing and one of the best amenities of the city. It is actually the largest city park in Europe with around 7 sq kilometres of forest and grassland. Nearly right in the heart of the city. It is easy to have a run around while keeping socially distant and Fintan loves to feed his ducks and see the deer and other wildlife.
The ducks really love to see him walking up the path with his bag of feed and now he has them eating out of his hand.
The pond we go to is pretty wild with lots of wildlife. It has an island in the middle which is untouched by humans
During World War II the Germans ACCIDENTALLY dropped some bombs on Dublin thinking it was the English Belfast and one of them landed in this pond expanding it to the north.
For my son and I, this place is magical with always something new to discover. The first image in this post is of a terrapin we spotted on the island with my telescope. Legend has it that these were released into the pond after the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtle craze of the 80s passed and people decided to dump their pets. The island has become a great home for them and they can be seen on a sunny day basking in the sun.
I know for many this lockdown has been though and for me also but it has been so great to share these walks with my son and educate him on nature and doing things I used to do as a child.
woooooow.... very beautiful... excellent 😍😍😍🌹
