INTRODUCTION ABOUT AIR POLLUTION.
This is the adverse alteration of the normal atmospheric gaseous composition of 78 % nitrogen, 20.87 % oxygen. 0.9 % argon and 0.03 % carbon dioxide as well as traces of other noble gases.
Air pollution can also be defined as the presence in the outdoor atmosphere of one or more of contaminants in quantities that are injurious to humans, plants and animal life.
What do you think is the effect of these air pollutants on the people and the environment having such factory?
These substances that pollutes the air are called air pollutants. Examples of air pollutants include dust, fumes, gas, mist, odour, smoke, Carols and some oxides of metals and non_ metals.
SOURCE OF AIR POLLUTION.
pollution can result from the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, gasoline and natural gas.
Discharge from automobile exhaust pipe s and industries are great contributor of air pollution. Smoke, dust and lead particles are important sources of air pollution. Smoke whether from domestic or industrial furnace consists of sooth, Ash and grit. Dust made up of light soil particles and mining activities add to air particles. Pollution resulting from dust particles may be very noticeable in Jos area of plateau state of Nigeria where a lot of them are released into the atmosphere during tin mining. In Enugu state, fine coal particles resulting from coal mining pollutes the environment around such area. In Port Harcourt around Trans_ Amadi Industrial areas, oxides of metals and non_ metals pollute the environments. All the water around Such area are blackish and are covered with oil. In Nkalagu and Ashaka, where cement is being produced, cement dust is a common source of pollution.
The amount of smoke , dust and lead particles produced in industries andi factories in Nigeria is enormous, They are causing serious enviroment threats.
EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION.
(1) Air POLLUTANTS chiefly cause damage to Organisms and buildings for example , dust accumulation in lungs causes diseases, which Leads to respiratory problems, hastens, bronchitis and causes early death.
(2) Accumulation of dust on building is also capable of discoloring such buildings.
