The merchant's morning.
Early morning the sun had just begun to rise and the lighthouse that pointed the way to the trading city had already gone out in the night.
All the merchant ships that were supposed to arrive at the port had already arrived and were unloaded and the port staff had gone home to indulge in a sound sleep.
In this gloom no one noticed a small sailing barge that silently entered the harbor of the port and moored at the pier.
A man jumped out of the barge threw a mooring line onto a cast-iron bollard and lifting a heavy parapet installed it as a gangway to the barge.
Glancing around he did not see any dockers waiting for the opportunity to earn some money unloading a merchant ship and he had to unload the heavy sacks of goods onto the pier himself.
Yesterday evening I decided to ruin another sheet of paper in my new sketchbook lol.
Having written the date and nickname in the corner of the sheet of paper I began to think about the theme of the next drawing.
I wanted to draw something related to the sea I like to look at ships.
I started drawing from the parapet where people get from the ship to the pier but the overall picture had not yet formed in my imagination.
And at that moment the thought came to me that in the paintings of famous artists who sometimes depicted merchants we see well-fed people dressed in silk and fur sitting in the morning at a round table on the veranda of their palace sipping tea from a gilded tea set, and their servants scurrying around them.
But probably these are the merchants who were either born into a merchant family and inherited a trading business or those who have already achieved a lot over many years.
I decided to draw a merchant who had just started his merchant career saved up some money to buy a barge and the first batch of goods, denying himself everything.
As they say the first time is difficult both drawing and trading.
I'll be honest it was hard for me to understand how a half-bent man would look carrying a heavy bag and climbing from the deck to the parapet leading to the pier.
Maybe... so.
At first I thought that this would be a relatively quick drawing without many details but somehow something went wrong as planned.
Sacks with goods appeared on the deck which the merchant was to unload.
Start working on the wood texture.
I wanted to see the background on which the lighthouse and the horizon are located.
I could have left the horizon visible enough but the merchant had to get to the market early in the morning and so I had to create some early morning darkness.
At this stage I consider the drawing complete but I do not exclude that over time I will return to this drawing and change something.
