The Second One
This colored pencil drawing ‘De Smorenhoek – 15-12-24’ is my next impressionist one after ‘Royal Estate – 12-12-24’. This time in color. This isn’t the first time I did a drawing after the place. The last one was 4 years ago during the Corona crisis. The very scenery wasn’t much known to me actually. I knew it alright. In fact, I have known Beek-Ubbergen for whole my life. Simply because my aunt Drina lived there and we visited her frequently throughout the years. On Rozen-maôndag during Carnaval I remember walking down the Ketedal hearing the music. The Smorenhoek is just on the other side of the Boterberg. An anomaly really because, except for the Elysian Fields. It’s all trees and hills in Beek and Berg en Dal. So there I was a couple of years back, walking down the path with my dad Henk Akkers.
Focus on the Clouds
The first impression did a lot to me. The sun shone brilliantly and it created lovely cast shadows across the fields. That was some years back. Now in 2024 and still a astonished by my 2nd warning by Youtube (Prude Tube) I made another ‘safe’ drawing. Not a one appearing on the Tube quickly. They banned me and I will bann them for a while. Not that they will notice though. Anyway, I quite liked doing another landscape. In this particular work I focused on the hefty play of dark and light in the clouds really. The greens of the trees in the front and in the back almost look blackish on the picture. However, I remember they weren’t that black at the actual spot. So, I added a lot of red and orangy browns and let them correspond with the the clouds colours.
