House on the Moyka River Embankment

From the side of the embankment this house looks rather ordinary, it can be classified as an ordinary historical structure. The building was built in the middle of the 19th century. This is what the embankment section with this house looks like:

Со стороны набережной этот дом выглядит достаточно просто, его можно отнести к рядовой исторический застройке. Временем постройки дома считается середина XIX века. Вот так выглядит участок набережной с этим домом:

We are interested in the three-storey house, especially the part in the centre of the frame. The two-storey annex and the beautiful fence belong to another building. They belong to the palace of Princess M.V.Vorontsova. By the way, this gate can be seen in the film "Peter FM" - the gate used to be open and the route through the palace territory was a very pleasant stroll. And also a way to walk straight from Decembristov Street to the embankment, which is quite relevant for the residents of the area.

Нас интересует трёхэтажный дом, особенно та его часть, которая в центре кадра. Двухэтажный флигель и красивая ограда относятся к другому зданию. Они принадлежат дворцу княгини М. В. Воронцовой. Кстати, эти ворота можно увидеть в фильме "Питер FM" — раньше ворота были открыты, и маршрут по территории дворца был очень приятной прогулкой. А также способом пройти напрямик от улицы Декабристов к набережной, для жителей района это достаточно актуально.

I took a couple of pictures of the central part of the house, so you could see it in more detail. You're unlikely to notice anything unusual here!

Я сделала пару снимков с центральной частью дома, чтобы можно было рассмотреть её более детально. Вряд ли вы заметите здесь что-то необычное!

The wonders begin when you enter the courtyard. Just walking into the courtyard is not enough - the most part of the facade is decorated in exactly the same way as in other mid-19th century tenement houses - "without architectural extravagances". But if you go to the farthest small courtyard, you suddenly see a fragment of the facade that cannot be referred to the 19th century in any way. Researchers of Petersburg history conducted an entire investigation in the city archives to find out how a piece of the 18th century facade has survived almost untouched to this day. The story is interesting and fascinating, and reads like a detective story.

Чудеса начинаются, когда вы заходите во двор. Просто зайти во двор недостаточно - большая часть дворового фасада оформлена точно так же, как и в других доходных домах середины XIX века - “без архитектурных излишеств”. Но если дойти до самого дальнего маленького дворика, вы неожиданно видите фрагмент фасада, который никак не может относить к веку XIX. Исследователи истории Петербурга провели целое расследование в городских архивах, чтобы выяснить, как кусочек фасада XVIII века сохранился почти нетронутым до наших дней. История интересная и увлекательная, читается как детективный рассказ.
