20 Years of Blogging: All These Myriad Words!

in hive-185836 •  3 years ago

After many years of blogging and generally working on lots and lots of very different and distinct projects scattered across the world, Mrs. Denmarkguy and I recently decided that it was time for us to act more like Responsible Adults™ and get ourselves a bit better organized.

What does that mean, exactly?

Well, after a number of requests, we are building what you might call a "vanity website."

Maybe that's a less-than-perfect term to use; what we're actually doing is putting together a central "portal" of sorts that has links to — and descriptions of — all the things we're involved with... things that (till this point) have all been kept very separate.

Anyway, this has turned into an exercise in tracking down — among other things — a 20-year blogging "career" for me, along with the various presences of five microbusinesses I still am keeping going.

Mrs. Denmarkguy and I both work very hard at the business of "Not Having A Real Job!"

Which is a facetious way of saying that we are both very independent and have worked hard to create the sort of lifestyle that enables to not have to go out become "employed" somewhere on the outside, where we'd have to deal with such things as community, bosses, co-workers, office politics and other such unpleasantries.

Anyway, it was I started rounding up my various "projects" that I started thinking about the thousands of blog posts I have written across fifteen blog venues... not counting Steemit. Just doing a little bit of quick math, it's a pretty good bet we're talking at least five million words or the equivalent of writing the Holy Bible seven times!

The thing that makes me laugh about that is that I always wanted to be a writer and publish books, yet I have not a single book to my credit!

Which got me to thinking about human psychology, and the different ways we "parse" information. I tend to process information in short "chunks." Oddly enough, I wouldn't feel the slightest bit daunted by someone challenging me to write 100 1000-word blog posts in 100 days... but the idea of writing 100,000 words (a typical book-length manuscript) that's a single cohesive train of thought makes me break out in a cold sweat.

Strange, isn't it, how the human mind works?

According to @steemchiller's excellent SteemWorld dApp — which you should be using, if you're not! — this will be my 1,379th top level post here in four years and change... which probably amounts to the equivalent writing of ten full-length books, and yet I still have never finished a book manuscript.

What's so ironic about that is that I have never had a problem with "OMG... what am I going to write about???" when it comes to journaling and blogging... and yet, any time a friend or relative has said "You love to write, why don't you write a book?" I always find myself wondering "but what ABOUT??"

As I said, it's strange how the human mind works.

Anyway, by the time I finished looking back at my blogs, I realized I had fifteen blogs that are worthy of getting a link from our new web site.

All I can say is that I must REALLY enjoy doing this!

Thanks for reading, and have an awesome weekend!

How about YOU? Were you blogging anywhere before joining Steemit? Do you consider yourself "a writer," or is this merely something you "dabble" in? Leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!

Hi *@chriddi, thanks for stopping by, and for your kind words!

"The written word" has always been one of my favorite tools for self-exploration; first with pen and ink... and then when "Blogging" became a thing in the late 1990s, a whole new world opened up for me.

These flowers looke beautifu and almost looked artificial. Nice angles. 🖤

Thank you! I love nature, in close-up.
