A Day of Working With "Other Things!"

Some days just don't go as planned. I'm sure you're well aware of that from your own life!

I had great hopes of working on things creative today, but that was not to be.

For starters, I had to work on our sewer system which has not been behaving well for the last few weeks. Well, actually our sewer system is a septic tank system, and from time to time I get the unpleasant job of pulling out hoses and heavy gloves and blowing the sludge out of the system.

Sure, we could hire "professionals" to do the job, but usually that sort of thing involves a service call that costs $150 just to get somebody to get in a car and drive over here and then the clock starts running from there.

We've lived in this house long enough that I know some of the little quirks that happen with the sewer system from time to time, and which filters are likely to clog up so I just deal with it myself... unless it's an absolute emergency that requires somebody with a big pumper truck.

Nasty work though!

Haven't gotten that done, I pulled out my camera and some items I was going to start photographing, to put on eBay for sale, before next week's big shopping weekend.

Well, I got approximately three shots into the process when the small red blinking low battery light started going off! Time to recharge the batteries!

So we're doing our best to being environmentally happy by using rechargeable batteries rather than throwing away a bunch of batteries. Of course, we don't have any more batteries beyond exactly as many as we tend to need so there's not a "back stock" of already charged batteries when the camera runs out of juice.

So I decided to do some paperwork while waiting for the batteries to charge... which normally takes about 2 or 3 hours. I also made a mental note to myself that we really ought to get some extra AA batteries - which is the most common size we use - we can give them to ourselves for Christmas so we don't run into this nonsense again!

Next thing I know my email pings because apparently - according to one of the online sites where I sell stamps to collectors - I have requested to change my email address!

Of course, I haven't requested to change my email address because I haven't even been near that site for several days. Clearly this is a hacking/phishing attempt and I rush off to the site and reset my password, just in case.

20 minutes later I get another email where clearly the person who was originally attempting to change my email address has discovered that they now want to change the email address from my email address to another email address I don't recognize.

So I shake my head and realize that this person is just making the mistake of using a new email address they'd like to have before checking whether that email address is actually available! I don't know what's going on with people...

Anyway, by the time I got done with all that "busy work" it was time for me to head into town and do the grocery shopping, which also meant I could pretty much kiss off the idea of getting anything functional done on my creativity for the day.

The thing that amazes me, is how easily an entire day can go by just on account on a few small sidetracks that demand our attention. I guess it's a side effect of this life we live in which there is very little slack time we can use to allocate to stuff that's gone sideways.

Sometimes I just wish life were simpler!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!
