Always Out of Time, it Seems...

Sometimes the reality of life can make us feel sad.

Like the fact that I have once again seemed to neglect my blog, for no reason other than simply being unable to find the time to sit down and write.

I often wonder to myself whether this is simply a bi-product of modern life: We spend so much time trying to scratch out a basic living and keeping up with all the things we perceive we "have to" get done that there ends up being no more time for the things we like to do "just for fun."

Once upon a time, I had dreams of being a writer as a profession, but I did not do very well at it... even though I persevered for quite some time.

In a way, perhaps I pursued the writing life for longer than I should have, simply out of a stubborn desire to prove my parents wrong, back from the days when they insisted that "writing will only lead you to a life of poverty."

What WE Value vs. What the WORLD Values

There's a lot of self-help wisdom out there to suggest that we should "pursue our passions," because doing so will allow us to create a life we love.

But there's also an element of reality to face up to, there. We may be able to pursue those passions, but can we realistically afford to do so, if what we're passionate about isn't necessarily something very many other people care about?

Consider how many (now) famous artists and authors did not achiever fame and recognition until after they passed from this plane of existence... many were thought mad; many died as paupers in the local poorhouse.

Thinking back on my childhood and youth, I am sure it must have been confounding to my parents that I never seemed to have much interest in "popular" or "mainstream" activities.

"Why don't you get into something like Banking, or Real Estate, or something people actually VALUE?"

Because there is not a damn thing about those things that interest me even in the slightest...

I always did keep writing. These days, I delude myself that it's "worthwhile" because at least I might make an occasional buck or two from blogging... It's definitely not a profession. But it is a passion.

Even so, I find myself out of time, rather frequently. I wish it weren't so, but there are expenses and bills to pay, and taxes... and I have to put my time towards something that might materially help pay the bills.

But I'll keep on writing, as time allows...

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!

Glad you found the time to make a post. I'm living that life of eeking out a living but by doing what I love. I would never be able to do it on my own though, so thankfully I have the support of a pretty great guy.
