I do enjoy watching life unfold, as it is.
I particularly like to study coincidences and synchronicities and then ponder the reality of whether these coincidences really are coincidences.
Is there something else at work?
For example, our neighborhood stages an annual series of Wednesday night concerts on the beach during the summer, and tonight was the first night. It's kind of an informal outdoor BYOB thing that people just like going to; sitting at the tables with their picnic dinners, wine and whatever.
Meanwhile, it has been bone dry around here for the better part of 6 weeks with a little more than some occasional morning fog drip to keep things green. And yet? For the first time in all this time, this afternoon and evening we had a forecast that called for an 80% chance of rain showers.
Obviously, since an entire region is involved in where this forecast covers — not just a few hundred people going to a summer concert — this must be a coincidence, right?
And yet? You find yourself asking the very obvious question of why?
To be honest, I don't really mind. We're not made of paper and because it's been so dry we actually need the rain so it's quite welcome. Besides, the band will be under the covered Pavilion so it's not like they and their equipment will get wet.
Even so, an unusual coincidence that makes you want to go "hmmmm..."
Personally, I really like the fact that these events take place at the beachfront, because if I get too overwhelmed by the crowds there — which both Mrs. Denmarkguy and myself are prone to — we can just pick up and walk 50 yards away and start picking up rocks and shells and whatever else we can find on the beach!
As it turned out, it started raining already at 2:00 in the afternoon, with the event slated to start at 5:00. Not good!
And then... it suddenly cleared up and became mostly sunny by a little after 4:00pm, and the chances of rain dropped to about 15%! How's that for timing.
We ended up having an enjoyable evening with friends, and we were happy that we'd not decided to call them and cancel our outing!
The clouds have mostly lifted, and the band is just getting started!
Of course, the above might be a fairly common scenario... even though a strange connection seemed to exist there. We notice when it rains for picnics and outdoor events because we're unhappy.
But some coincidences are a little more far-fetched.
Consider the fact that Mrs. Denmarkguy and I actually met without really knowing that we'd met... TWICE, many years ago, and thousands of miles apart, and both times nowhere near where we lived! And we'd already met, as kids, back in 1973! And — as if that wasn't enough — it was a complete coincidence that we reconnected again, many years later!
Was there an "unseen hand" involved in that? Gotta wonder, sometimes!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!
How about you? Do you think coincidences "just happen?" Or is there something more going on? Are there things between Heaven and Earth we just can't explain? Do leave a comment if you feel so inclined — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
