Whereas I have been a "goal setter" for most of much adult life, I haven't always been very good at setting goals.
To clarify... "good goals" are the ones that are very clearly defined and spelled out; "poor goals" are the ones that are very vague and ambiguous so you don't really know whether or not you are "making it."
For example, there is a BIG difference between saying "I want to get in shape and lose weight in 2022" and saying "I want to weigh 65kg and run 5 kilometers in 24 minutes by the end of 2022."
Of course — even though this may seem painfully obvious — it's not enough to merely set goals and start working towards them, you need to "check in" on a regular basis and possibly revisit and revise your goals, as needed.
And there's a special case that happens when you actually reach one of your goals — possibly ahead of time — and you need to decide "what next?"
And that typically is a really important question, because just because you reach a goal doesn't mean the world suddenly stops. But what should we do? Do we extend out current goals? Or should we just put a checkmark in the "accomplished" column and create a completely new goal to strive for?
Of course, that depends...
I have a goal of reaching 3,000 SteemPower by the end of the year as part of my rebuilding process, but that doesn't mean I am suddenly going to stop, just because I get to 3,000SP... instead, a new goal will be set... with a new number to strive for, by the end of the next year.
It's important to check in with your goals on a regular basis, because goal setting doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless you track your progress. And yet? Lots of people don't, often citing that it's "too boring" to track a bunch of numbers.
Personally, I don't think so... and I don't even mind tracking my progress in situations where I am clearly going to fall short of my goals.
The way I see it, it's all a learning experience!
Thanks for reading, and have a great week ahead!
How about YOU? Are you a goal setter? Do you check in regularly to track your goals? What do you usually do when one of your goals has been reached? Do leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!

I started the year with some goals and I did not finish reaching them, I learn something every day that was not planned and I got sidetracked I think that as you set goals, others come but meeting them would be great, controlling or monitoring would be good but we can let it flow to see what happens maybe we like a change.
Cheers!

As long as you don't doggedly hold on to goals, but understand them as a changing and flowing process, things will go right. Otherwise, watch out...!
Solange man nicht verbissen an Zielen festhält, sondern sie als veränderlichen und fließenden Prozeß versteht, läuft es richtig. Andernfalls aufpassen...!
