Our post office building in our small town was built in 1893, and some parts of the building — including most of the main lobby and service area — have not changed in the 130-odd years the building has been there. Sure, there are small signs of modernization, here and there but much has been carefully restored, rather than replaced.
The Old Post Office Building
Perhaps what visitors notice the most is that the walls of P.O.Boxes are all original to the building. The locks are modern, but the actual pigeonhole doors are from the late 1800's.
What I personally notice the most is that the dark gray marble floor from the main entrance door to the service counter has an actual soft groove worn in it... it may be made of stone, but the millions of feet that have walked that path for 130 years have gradually worn a 4-foot wide depression in the stone... maybe about 20mm deep at the center.
During a recent restoration project, there was actually talk about replacing the floor, but they decided to keep it the way it was, as the building is now classified as a "historical landmark."
So, what does this all have to do with perseverance?

That groove in the stone floor represents what can be accomplished when something is repeated, over and over, for a long enough period of time.
In a way, it serves as a reminder of different aspects of my own life... places where I have managed to "create something" not because I had an exceptional idea, or felt inspired, or had amazing talent... but simply because I was willing to keep going while everyone around me slowly quit, one by one.
Yesterday's post was significantly related to the times when circumstances force us to quit something we have been clinging to... but the opposite side of that coin is having the understanding that the best thing you can do for yourself is simply to keep going.
I suppose this thought popped into my head a couple of days ago when everything in the Cryptosphere suddenly "headed south," and we went from thinking about the next "Alt. Coin Bullrun" to wondering whether we were heading back to the basement again.
Which made me think about the way activity on Steemit invariably ebbs and flows, depending on how the crypto markets are doing, and specifically on how well our own Steem token is doing.
I'm sure a few of the people who have recently started being active again... will grow discouraged and head back into the woodwork. Not saying this because I want that to happen... but because it is more or less inevitable.
And I suppose that's OK; people gotta do what people gotta do.
Personally, I'm not going anywhere!
I'm one of "those people" who tend to stick to things, no matter what. Which can be a great asset in many cases, and sometimes also a liability.
The key is to learn discernment, whether what your sticking to is a job, a friend, a lover, an interest, a vocation or something else.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!
How about you? Are you good at sticking to things? Even when life is not going well? Leave a comment if you feel so inclined — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
