One of the realities that we almost inevitably have to deal with, living in this day and age, is the fact that practically every time you need to buy something, the price has gone up!
What I have grown quite aware of is that most of the time when I find myself at the grocery shop, I end up pretty much buying what I can afford, rather than buying what I want.
The times between when we "treat ourselves to something nice" grow rarer and rarer... to the point of non-existence.
For example, earlier today when I was in the supermarket I ended up buying some kind of rather flimsy looking off brand paper towels because I'm not going to pay $10.99 for two rolls of paper towels... because that's just flipping ridiculous!
Similarly, when it comes to food we will be having pork chops tomorrow. Now, I don't have anything against pork chops at the best of times, but in this case these were pork chops we could afford because they were on sale, and then they were in a package that had to be sold by today, so they were an additional 50% off... as a result of which the $22 package of pork chops - which I definitely could not afford - ended up costing about $5.75... which I could afford.
Such is life these days, for a great many people in what many see as "the world's richest country!" I suppose we should be grateful that there's food to be had, at all! So much for the "age of prosperity!"
To be honest, 2023 was a rather miserable year in which it felt like we were gradually sinking deeper and deeper into quicksand.
That said, now that we are in 2024 I'm trying my best to be positive and hopeful about having a good year this year. I actually felt kind of hopeful about the year because we seemed to end with the cryptosphere on a somewhat high note for the year and things were moving upwards in a general sort of sense.
But then, of course, we barely get 48 hours into the new year and we have already had our first "flash crash." Because God forbid anything good should last longer than 17 seconds!
Even so, I still want to make the most of it... how about you?
Thanks for stopping by and have a great remainder of your week!

Indeed! We have to watch everything very carefully, and the days of living with no more than an "approximate" budget are long gone... every penny has to be watched, or we could end up out of money when there is still month left...
