Summer Has Officially Started!

Yesterday marked the summer Solstice, and with it, the longest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere.

Summer Slows

One of the things I have learned about myself is that I always seem to "slow down" during the summer. It almost feels like it is part of my body and mind's "Natural Rhythm" to do so. I don't know whether it's a hangover from my school days... where we'd have those long summer holidays.

Regardless, it almost always feels like I become less productive, by the time mid-June rolls around... almost like a person who's getting ready to go on summer holiday!

Which, of course, I am not, since I am self-employed and my business keeps going, no matter which season we are looking at.

When I look back across my life, summer may not be my favorite season. but most of my really fond memories seem to relate to summer... perhaps grounded in the fact (again) that we — as children — would have those lovely long summer holidays when we didn't have to go to school!

Undoubtedly, some of it relates to the fact that I always loved nature and being outside... and those summer months offered the most ample opportunity to do so.

During most year, I would at least spend some of the summer living at my Auntie's house in the country... and I felt happy simply not feeling squashed under the constant influence of my parents.

I know we're supposed to "respect our elders" and all that, but when you have highly controlling parents... it's not always such a happy experience.

Of course, summer also marked the time of the year when we would start to "eat what we'd grown" in the garden. Aforementioned auntie always kept a very extensive vegetable garden, and there were lots of fruit trees and bushes around the property, as well.

To this day, one of the things that "feels" most like summer in my life is work in our own garden here. Even though it is much smaller, it still brings up fond memories.

Home grown!

The "challenge" of summer — for me — is to keep working, even though I would rather be sitting in a chair outside, reading a book!

Thankfully the days are long, so I get to steal a few moments here and there!

Thanks for reading, and have a great Friday!

That is right It is difficult to work in the warm weather. I do not like summers because it sweats a lot. Winter tends to be my favorite season but I like to stay in my blankets during winters. Maybe both seasons makes me equally lazy.
