Yes, I CAN Be “Bothered” to Take Care of "Just Myself!"

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, Mrs. Denmarkguy is away for the week, taking care of our daughter and son-in-law's house while they are on a trip to Hawaii. Well, that, and taking care of their little dog as well.

Anyway, that means I'm spending the week alone here at our house, taking care of our own menagerie, consisting of house, cat, dog, birds and fish and various other things.

Somebody asked me if I was going to be eating TV dinners all week, and the remark sort of took me aback, a bit. Then I said "no I'm not planning to eat TV dinners; I'm just going to cook food and eat it."

Evidently that's considered somewhat unusual, and I gather that most people when they are home and on their own (their spouse/partner is away) don't bother to take much care of themselves. To be honest, I never understood that. If you like to eat why would you not eat decent food just because you're alone?

I was reminded of my auntie who lived back in Denmark and who helped raise me during much of my childhood and youth. She lived most of her later adult life by herself and one of the things I always admired about her was that every day she would cook herself proper meals and sit down and eat them... just like somebody might if they had an entire family present.

I think I might have inherited some of my habits and traits from her.

Anyway, the whole incident/question brought to mind this idea of why we would not take care of ourselves simply because we are temporarily alone? Seems like a sort of neglect on a personal level. I'll be the first to admit that there are lots of things I can't be bothered to do, most of the time, but not eating properly and not taking proper care of myself just because I'm alone is not one of them.

The only thing that really changes is that I might end up eating the same thing three days in a row... simply because the world (or at least the US) isn't really set up for small portions of food, in an individual scale.

In general though, having eight days to myself doesn't really change my routine very much.

Except it is very very quiet when Mrs. Denmarkguy isn't here...

Thanks for reading, and have a great rest of your week!
