Pincushions are so beautiful and are used a lot by florists in South Africa, for major events and wedding celebrations.
They grow ideally on the slopes of the mountainside in the Western Cape, South Africa.
Many mountain fires ravage the flora and fauna but the seeds are propagated by falling off the bushes and ants take them to their nests, where they are protected from birds and fire.
After a fire has burnt the area above the rain washes the acid from the charcoal and this helps the germination.They are very difficult to transplant, as their root systems are delicate and fine.
You can buy them from nurseries and will need an acid soil with plenty of sun.
