Only the image is bad: New data show that AstraZeneca's AZD1222 vaccine works in all age groups and protects against severe processes. The latest study results from Scotland include data from 5.4 million people who have been vaccinated. "They are very encouraging," says Sarah Walters, Managing Director of AstraZeneca Austria: "They show that the vaccine is able to reduce the risk of a Covid 19-related hospital stay after the first dose by 94 percent."
There are comparable effects in all age groups, including those over the age of 80. According to this, the highest effectiveness against hospitalization after the first dose of the vaccine from AstraZeneca was 94 percent and with the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer 85 percent.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) had recommended the vaccine from the Swedish-British pharmaceutical company for everyone, but pointed out that there was comparatively less data on people over the age of 65. So the National Vaccination Board played it safe and initially recommended its use in younger people - but at the same time had nothing against it if it was vaccinated on older people. This should be clear next week.
