Hi Steemians🕊
War is harm, suffering, destruction and evil. War is indefensible. Everyone, every country, should immediately defend peace in Ukraine. There is no doubt that most of us agree that war is a human tragedy. In my post, I will touch on a different issue that caught my attention. My topic is some weird Sanctions.
While the war in Ukraine continues, sanctions are imposed on Russia to take steps backward, naturally. Sanctions are used as a deterrent for wars, political tensions, etc., which is normal. Of course, these sanctions must be within the limits of logic in order to be effective and correct.
The Times link
One of them is that announced that Netflix has shelved the filming of Tolstoy's Anna Karenina. Anna Karenina is one of the greatest works in the history of world literature. Anna Karenina, Count Vronsky are very important characters created. Attempting to select Anna Karenina as a sanction is like blocking Homer's Iliad and the Odyssey. It's also like getting angry with the French at The Sétif and Guelma massacre in Algeria and banning Victor Hugo's Les Miserables.
Tolstoy is the common value of humanity, just like Cervantes, Voltaire, Socrates, Plato, Victor Hugo, Jack London, Dante, Aristotle, Goethe, Homer. It should not be forgotten that Tolstoy; is a global writer who fought against tsarism, against slavery, both with his literature and personally. How can such be decided against Tolstoy, the creator of War and Peace? I find it wrong for Netflix to take this decision just because Tolstoy is Russian.
The news link
Another shocking news is that Milan University has canceled the Dostoevsky course. This censorship is very sad to the creator of Crime and Punishment. Fortunately, I read that a step back from this decision was taken after the reactions. How can the tragedies be interpreted healthily without reading Crime and Punishment?
Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky are among the few writers who will remain in the world 2500 years from now, just as the works of Homer exist 2500 years later.

Another weird news is the Tchaikovsky decision of the Zagreb orchestra. The Zagreb philharmonic orchestra has removed two of Tchaikovsky's compositions from its concert. Tchaikovsky, like Bethoween, is the common heritage of humanity. It doesn't matter if they are Russian, German, Turkish, or American. Tchaikovsky is a great musician.
In my opinion, these kinds of things are ridiculous, weird steps reminiscent of racism. It is pitiable to react to war through the values of the world. Sanctions should not deviate from their aim and should not turn into racism.
It is hard to know that so many World treasures in Literature and Art, has been the subjects to pressure onto Putin and his war.
I am pretty sure that everything you listed is temporarily and will be revoked as soon as the conflict settles

Thank you so much for reading and commenting on my post. Yes, I also think that these decisions are temporary. In my opinion, such decisions are not suitable for libertarian Europe, which experienced the art and philosophy revolution with the Renaissance. I think it is unethical to boycott Russian artists and Russian art. These days will definitely pass, history is recorded experiences and decisions. I hope these hard times will come to an end as earliest as possible 😞

When Russia annexed Crimea, we saw that sanctions did not affect the individual in charge, when the people lose everything, the man on the gold throne laughs.
You might recall that I asked where you might go if things grew worse in Turkey. Europe is not a good idea. A few days ago, I ordered Potassium Iodide. I don't want to add to people's concerns, but this is that map of an event that happened in my lifetime.

The events of the last couple of days would have been ten times worse and much closer to you. You might collaborate with our mutual friend on researching what you might need to do in the event it happens. Looking at potential spread scenarios, I suggested that my daughter in Australia and my son in Alberta, Canada, buy some KI. My current philosophy is that it is better to have something and not need it than need it and not have it.
I understand that Turkey is also under threat from the direction of Syria. Only two of my friends (a mother and daughter) have decided to escape, hopefully on their way to Italy.

Thank you so much David for the map and advice you shared. As always, you are thoughtful and cautious. I will pay attention to what you have said. As you said, there are very worrying thoughts around. We will live and we will see. I hope worst-case scenarios don't happen 😞

I attended Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute during my teens. Its motto was "Dum Vivimus Vivamus" - While We Live, Let Us Live!
I don't think you have thoroughly described what you think will happen after you die. What is the worst-case scenario? You might sicken, but that means you have two things to worry about: either you will get better or you will get worse. If you get better, you have nothing to worry about. If you get worse, you only have two things to worry about: either you live, or you die. If you live, you have nothing to worry about. If you die, you only have two things to worry about. Will you go to heaven or the other place? If you go to heaven, you have nothing to worry about. If you go to the other place, you will be so busy shaking hands with your friends; you won't have time to worry about anything.
I might suggest a few things that will help you survive, but I am not the best to ask to suggest how to live. Perhaps my best advice is to love someone who makes you happy. There are people that I wish you could meet: my daughter and a cousin and her daughter. I think you are all sort of cool and could be great friends. As for me, I would hope that you could all get together and reminisce about the great jokes that I told.

What a great motto👌 The questions and answers you mentioned seemed like an endless loop 🙄 You are so right that unfortunately there will be no time to worry in the worst-case scenario.
How to live is very relative, it can be a game of trial and error 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for your kind words 😊 If you believe that, I believe that I can get along well with them as well 👍 Who knows, maybe we'll meet one day. Btw, I'm sure your wonderful jokes are permanent for everyone who knows you 😉

If only Dostoevsky had written "Trial and Error" - he had to write "Crime and Punishment" instead.
I spent almost three hours on the telephone with tech support for the government today. It is approaching Tax season, and I wanted to be sure I could log onto the government website. The internet was really slow, and I started off with one woman, Paula, then eventually it had to escalate to another person named Josh. I punished those people terribly. Paula apologized to me for taking so long, but I told her the story about the farmer who held a pig up a tree. I was worse with Josh. They couldn't resolve the issue so in a couple of days, the next level will contact me. I wonder what story I will tell them.
I found a backdoor into my profile on the government website, and if I was younger I would create a workaround to let myself in. I suggested to Josh, that if the government won't let me in to pay taxes, I don't have to pay this year. He suggested that decision was above his pay grade.
PS
The workaround entails changing (&allowInteraction=true&reauth=false) reauth=true.

Hi David, sorry for my late reply to your comment. Unfortunately, when phone calls in official business enter like a whirlpool, it is very difficult to find the exit😑 I don't know if you made them angry or think by telling stories, but I think you did well👌 I don't know the story of the farmer hanging the pig up the tree. If you want to tell me it, I'd like to listen.
You wrote that they will call you in a few days. I wonder what story you told them when they called😀
You know what I'm thinking? Maybe the government is prolonging the solution so they can hear your stories 😄

Whenever someone apologizes for taking up my time, I tell them about the man who walked down a road. He saw a farmer holding a pig up in a tree as he walked. Quizzically he asked the farmer what he was doing. The farmer appealingly said that he was feeding his pig some apples.
"Isn't that time-consuming," queried the man.
"What's time to a pig?!" retorted the farmer.
I am still waiting for the call.

I hope you were able to solve the problem. Btw, this is the first time I've heard the story of the farmer feeding the pig, and I think it's a nice story 🙂

Very true. Punishing some of the most famous, deep and peaceful Russians artists, the best representants of their country's culture for the crimes of the current ruler is plain stupid... But hey, Netflix and big companies executives are not that bright. They just think at their own wallet. Milan's university was more surprising, and thankfully it was reversed.

@enveng Diplomacy, politics is rubbish, they only think about themselves, let's leave culture and art out of it, they are blinded, I just want them to stop bombing for the war to stop, they talk so much and they don't finish doing anything, peace I want peace!

Yes, all the world needs is a life without war. No one has the right to take away people's right to live.

You make a very valid point. Unfortunately, irrelevant sanctions began to be applied. We see that especially Russian civilians who are not pro-war are exposed to these sanctions.
My only wish is for this war and this situation between the two countries to end. We have come to 2022, we are living in so-called modern times, but there is still war and killing of innocent people on the agenda...

Definitely, you are right. For peace, the whole world must be peaceful. If there is a problem somewhere, there is a problem all over the world.
