The Grill Masters & The Barbecue Connoisseurs

I'm all cozied up, roasting warming my feet, lounging with my winter-love, the heater, while trying to write something. Like if snuggling up would loosen my creative neurons.

We had the best barbecue bash the other day. I wanted to write about it here but why is it so that sometimes you can't find words for the most fun times or moments in your life?

We had a small barbecue party with @soulfuldreamer and her family in our front yard. It was the wish of our husbands to which we happily complied. Why wouldn't we? When the husbands were going to be the grill-masters and we were only going to eat and chit-chat.

However, we helped them marinate and prepare the meat for the barbecue earlier that day. Maan and I took the responsibility of preparing 2-3 items each.

She prepared Chicken Tikka Boti (the hero item), Corns, Potatoes and she also
brought Gajar ka halwa (carrot pudding).

On the other hand, I prepared Chicken Malai Boti, Beef Seekh Kabab and Banoffee Pie.

I made the pie the night before. I don't have a sweet tooth but I think I have made this pie a gazillionth time now. It's so simple yet rich in flavours.

Around 3 in the afternoon, our husbands started setting up the grill. It was freaking cold. But summers are even harsher and unbearably hot here; we refrain from such outdoor activities at that time of the year. For this reason, we plan barbecues only in winter.

Coals were ignited, the flames settled in a few minutes, they started burning red and soon the air was filled with warmth and a nice crackling sound.

Husbands began skewering the meat and placed it on the hot grill. While it slowly cooked, we all had a round of warm and delicious Almond Cream Soup.

Soon after, the first batch of barbecue was ready. We all dug in and savoured the mouth-watering food.

It went on for hours. We enjoyed the desserts and some hot tea later on.

Husbands had their little party around the grill (turned into a bonfire) afterward. Kids were busy having fun in their way. Me and Maan had our own ladies' time, eating and talking - switching from one topic to another without getting tired.

I love such peaceful evenings, spent with the friends I cherish the most, friends who are more like family, who make life cheerful.

Before calling the night off, I helped a little with the preparations for Maan's daughter's birthday party which was planned the next day.

It turns out that indulging in yesterday's barbecue story can't satisfy my current hunger, it's only aggravating it. Time to fix something for dinner.

Hira.

I see a barefoot in the sandal... Either it's a fake photo or you just don't know what "cold" means... 😉

Nice to read that you had a great barbecue! The "division of tasks" and the splitting of the party into "husband wisdom" and "lady chats" is similar on such occasions in Germany, by the way. Equal rights or not... 😂

Haha. Believe me, it was cold. I don't know why men don't feel it. But then, we don't have harsh winters like you have. So sandals are not too uncomfortable (for men). I was wearing two pairs of socks. 😄

Equal rights for sure ! But I think barbecue is generally more of a men thing in the whole world. 😅

Our husbands don't wear socks. Maybe that is against there machismo.
Rest assured Hira and I were wearing layers of clothes and socks.
And we were glued to heater while chatting our hearts out. Doing a thing or two in-between.

Now this is what we call a "South African braai."
Best of all, here we do it in the sun, rain, hail, whatever the conditions might be and wherever we can find a place.
In fact, we even have what we call "National Braai Day."

As they say,

A braai is South Africa's answer to the barbecue – but it's so much more than that. It's a special South African feast that can last for hours

Here at home, we braai at least 2-3 times a week. Sometimes just the three of us, and other times with friends or family.

What I enjoy is that the work is split between the men and the ladies and we can all have fun. (•ิ‿•ิ)

That means you guys are hardcore braai-ers. I just googled the difference between barbecue and braai and realised that we also had a Braai. It was much more than a simple barbecue. 🙂

What I enjoy is that the work is split between the men and the ladies and we can all have fun.

Yeah, that's make it more fun because everyone is involved.

Oh yes! It was a braai! (•ิ‿•ิ)
Now, next time, when you have a braai, take some bread dough and bake some roosterkoek. You will love it, and then you can truly say that you had a South African braai.

Duly noted. 😀

I declare a subtle interest in the almond cream soup - is there perhaps a delicious recipe for us?

And I confess that at first glance (and actually afterwards ;-)) your barbecue looks like a table football to me ;-)))

I don't know the exact recipe as it wasn't homemade. I'll ask around for you, till then @soulfuldreamer might be of some help.

Now that you've said it. I can't unsee it. 😳
Makes we want to try a game on it. 😅

What an evening.
Loved every minute spent.
Such a lovely host. And I was given the left-over Banoffee pie on departure.
Thank you for all the help with preparations of the birthday party. I will be uploading the details soon.
Much love 💕

It was indeed a great evening. I recommend doing it more often. Atleast once before the summers.

You hosted an amazing birthday. Although I was there but can't wait to read about it. 😃

Something is taking away my breathe, the sweet smell of the barbecue 😉...

It must have been a great moment you all had there. Good memories worth sharing.

You're welcome to join us. But the party is over. 😄

And yeah, it was a good one.

There would always be another time..🙂

You and @soulfuldreamer conspired, didn't you? One bakes delicious and fragrant pastries, and the other puts out a barbecue. This is torture😆! You can't show people like that until they've had dinner! Now I don't know if I will submit my candidacy for curator in February🤣.

Hahaha.

Well if you put it this way.

I wish we could invite some of our steemit friends to our parties. Wouldn't that be so much fun?
Too much gossips!
Whenever Hira and I are in some gathering, we have to kind of remind ourselves to keep our steemit discussions at bay. It seems rude, if other people can't participate in the discussion.

But when it's only us, we talk our hearts out and sometimes there is endless whining about things (you know 😉).

Thank you really.

Now I don't know if I will submit my candidacy for curator in February🤣.

Why would not you??? 🤣🤣🤣

It's great that you're getting together in real life. Live communication has a great advantage. However, thanks to Steemit, we were all able to attend your party virtually. Steemit is covering thousands of kilometers, right?

Of course, I was joking about curation. I love doing it. This forces me to find time to read dozens of other people's posts. And I also give people a little joy, although someone else can do it😆.

It feels great to actually talk to someone from Steemit in person. But then, I'm friends with Maan long before Steemit and it's been fun since she joined.

I met some other users from Pakistan in a steem meetup once. Not in touch with anyone now but it was so great meeting real people behind those usernames.

I wish to meet a couple of international users including you. It would an interesting meetup - I can imagine it already. 😀

I wish to meet a couple of international users including you.

It would really be interesting, although difficult to organize. And in my case, it is impossible while the war is going on.

I'm glad you recommended your friend to join Steemit. She is a great author.

When is this bookmarks development coming up, moecki? See, I had almost missed this comment compliment 🤭☺️

You should not have seen this compliment 😆

Yeah, the world is crazy right now.

Even without that, it would be hard to gather everyone from the globle. 😶

A little joy now and then never hurts anyone.

Of course conscience joy 😉

Just tell us your dinner time. Don't leave curatorship over this. 😄

If Steemit were more advanced, I'd have set privacy on food posts from you - to save you from the torture. 🤪

😁
