Containers suitable for cultivation on the roof
You can grow dragon fruit in your rooftop garden in earthen tubs or drums. But it is best if you choose a 20 inch drum. Because in this size drum the seedlings can spread the prey well and the yield will be much better.
What kind of soil is needed?
Although dragon fruit can be grown easily in almost all types of soil. But if you want good yields, you must choose a sandy loam soil rich in organic matter. In the beginning you have to collect the sandy loam soil and clean it well. Then mix the amount of cow dung, 50 grams of potash fertilizer and 50 grams of TSP fertilizer with the collected soil. Soak the mixture of manure and soil with as much water as possible. Now keep all the ingredients in your selected drum for 10 to 12 days. Then shake the soil of the drum well with a stick and leave it for another 4 to 5 days. When the soil becomes a little dry, plant cuttings of good varieties in drums or pots.
Irrigation and maintenance
If the dragon fruit tree is not properly cared for, the yield will not be good. Although dragon fruit trees are not affected by many diseases, but other environmental care needs to be taken regularly. After planting, place the drum in a sunny place. As it is a cactus plant, it does not need to be watered much. While watering the saplings, be careful not to collect water at the roots. Before filling the drum, make 4 to 5 holes at the bottom of the drum to easily drain out the excess water inside the drum. Because the stems of the dragon tree are like vines, tie them to the pole as soon as the tree grows, so that the tree does not fall easily.
Dragon fruit collection
Dragon fruit cuttings can be harvested from 1 year to 18 months after planting. Fruits are ready to eat only 35-40 days after flowering.
