England 1-0 Serbia

I had not watched a full Euro Cup game until this one as I had expectations about the English team. And actually during the first twenty minutes I think they had a great game, even scoring a good goal in this time frame. After this initial good work though it seemed the whole team went into slow speed. So the first half ended with a slightly better English team winning 1-0 but not looking so good by the end.

The second half, on the other hand was dominated by Serbia, who produced a couple of chances, not well taken by their strikers. Kane did nearly score but was denied by the Serbian goalkeeper. And there was a push by an English defender which I am inclined to think was a penalty. Stat wise England had a slight lead in ball possession the rest of the stats were about equal for the teams. it was not a great game, but was not bad either.

Now I have to say England did not look as good as I thought they would, you know with the players they have you expect an almost complete control of the mid field, this did not happen. In fact the Serbian mid field was the better in the second half. The score is not really important, winning is, but a team that expects to win this cup should be a dominating force, which England was not today. Well, it could be down to a bad day for the players, perhaps we will see their real strength in the following games. I am not downplaying Serbia, they have always had good players. But comparing England and Serbia, with the players each team has, I expected a way different game.
