Good evening everyone,
What you see above is not a soft drink but a hibiscus tea popularly known as Zobo. Few days ago, I told myself I was going to stay away from soft drinks for at least 10 days because I figured I’ve been consuming too much. When I reached the third day, the temptation started rising but I kept on. As each day passes, the temptation rises more. Thankfully mum bought some hibiscus leaves for Zobo preparation.
Let me tell you a little about Zobo, as far as I know it is common in Nigeria and it’s made from Hibiscus sabdariffa (dried Roselle leaves). It has lot of health benefits such as treating constipation, helping with weight loss, regulating high blood pressure, helps the liver, tackles kidney disease and so on ( source ). So you see it’s far better than Soft drink.
Today I and mum made the tea and put it inside empty soda plastics. Below is a pictorial process of how the Zobo got prepared.
PROCESS
First I rinse the dried roselle leaves with clean water, put inside the pot with enough water. Then I covered it and allowed it to boil for some minutes. After that, I sieved out the leaves leaving behind the Zobo drink. To make it sweet, some pineapple flavors were added.
- After refrigerating, it looks like the picture below and very satisfying to drink. Now I have my very own healthy drink.
