I went to college in NC and the threat of flooding was something that we were always worried about. During one particularly bad storm / hurricane the entire city lost power and marshal law was declared. Almost everyone's apartment were destroyed, it was a crazy time for sure!

I'm not sure how I missed this comment. What school in NC, if you don't mind me asking? If I had to bet/guess, that was probably Hurricane Floyd. Everything went to hell in a handbasket just about all over the state.

I went to East Carolina University and the name Floyd seems like it is probably the right one. When we were finally told that we had to evacuate our apartments the water level was already almost completely above the first floor apartments below my own. When we returned weeks later we could see that the water had risen about 4 feet into the apartments on the 2nd floor. All the buildings were deemed unlivable and I was kind of shocked that the owners were somehow able to salvage some of the structure's wood. All the interiors had to be completely redone obviously. Crazy times that was.

Oh yes, quite crazy! I was living about an hour and 45 minutes west, near Raleigh. It completely wrecked us that far inland, so I can just about imagine it was hell at ECU. By the way, my oldest daughter and niece graduated from ECU as well. 👍

It's a great part of North Carolina. That was a long time ago though, I bet Greenville looks nothing like what I remember it being like now though. I don't see myself heading back there again ever though. It's so far away and I have no family there anymore.
