Ever since my High School days in the early 80's I have occasionally drawn my fellow passengers as I rode in the NYC subways. Not only did I have to develop a way of sketching quickly, I also had to sketch without the person being aware that I am drawing them. Now a days I would take a quick snap shot on my iPhone and draw them at my leisure but it's actually a lot more fun to draw them as I'm riding the train.

Hi Gil, pencil drawing is one of the best exercise, it is nice to be able to create volume for the portrait, shadow under the cap, but also wrinkles. For me the difficult part is hair both on heard and facial hair, something to do more work on it.
Beautiful portrait!

Thank you. I love sketching with pencils. A lot of my favorite works of art are not finished, polished works but the direct and simple exploration of a pencil sketch.
